Details are sketchy and nothing has been really said in the article. This could be for MMOs which is not exactly the same as games with multiplayer-capability.
So, don't get your panties in a bunch just yet. |

QUOTE(Mudmaniac @ Feb 25 2008, 02:44 PM) if anything, i gotta say they gotta start charging eventually. Isn't that called an investment? You basically offer something extra to get people to buy the game (and future expansions) as well as the console. can you imagine continuing to run http://www.pokemon-gts.net/ for free? If it is something like GTS, then its probably worth paying for. I dont know since I dont play Pokemon. But if its for their Friends Code system, charging for that will be equivalent to daylight robbery. |

I hate this piece of news, no seriously. Sheesh, they don't leave our money alone, never!

The charging would be a good thing primarily, I think. It will up the quality of large scale multiplayer worlds cos it enables the companies to hire staff to moderate and modify the game as long as there are paying customers.
I don't think they'll charge for simple games like Smash Bros or Mario Strikers or anything that's just deathmatch or so. It's just that massive worlds like EVE or WOW can't run unless properly funded, so it's completely reasonable and acceptable for them to have a fee. How much, on the other hand..who knows.. QUOTE("tento") I hate this piece of news, no seriously. Sheesh, they don't leave our money alone, never! "leaving our money alone"..what the...? Why would you run a business in the first place if you didn't want somebody's money? If you don't want to play online, you don't have to especially if it's too expensive for you. Why would they invest money in developing and maintaining something if nobody's paying for it? For the good of man kind? Kinda far fetched. Pick any company in the world, they ALL share the same objective. To make money. That's the first objective in every single industry. Nintendo, Sony, everyone. |
