today i went to rhapsody, hunting for epi les paul stand... when asking about the price the shop owner said 28 plus plus.. then cabut went to wok fatt.. at wok fatt they offer me 23 plus plus . the thing is both of them said it from korean but when i ask how to see the different between korean and china they just skip the question by saying just see lah ......

If you're willing to come down to malacca,there's a shop called Syarikat Daniel and he sells MIK Epi LP Standard for RM1450 but after discount RM1300.His LPs are the 2004 models so they don't come with full mahogany.I nearly got one,but LPs neck are really not suited for me.

I tried out a few LP Standards both from Korea and China......
To me, I felt that the China made ones were much lighter compared to the Korean ones. Also, workmanship not as good compared to the Korean (the routing not very clean, glued parts were rough). Tone wise, it seems a bit thinner in sound compared (bare in mind, was using 2 different amps at 2 different locations). The neck felt the same though, but quite clearly tell the difference in setup quality (the china made ones just didn't feel right).

Of course, I DID try a few China made ones that were exceptional. The sound was good and workmanship clean..... the problem is, Quality Assurance standards is clearly not as strict as the Korean factory. So just be careful and test them out for your own self. If it plays well and feels right to you, just get it...... after all, it's your ears you need to please as well.

Well, some MIC ones look like alder backs to me
but the ones with lots of grain [MIC] looks a lot like Sapelle to me though.

Sapelle is close to mahogany btw

heck, i'll take chinese mahogany anyday over US basswood or whatever...

the weight of wood from the same tree varies due to gravity.
common sense would dictate that the wood at the bottom of the tree will be much denser as the whole weight of the tree is pushing down on it.

thats why newer gibsons now are being chambered like mad else it'll be too damn heavy, which also means they're slowly running out of quality wood.
im sure gibson still have their own private stock for their custom shop models, but eventually that will also run out.
