Just that I dont want to give others false hope, or the impression that the customs are easily trickable. They are not.

I travel a lot - go in and out of KL to Jakarta and Singapore almost every week for the last three to four months on business. I have not been stopped at all in that time by customs.
Although, I do wear a business suit and look like I am in a hurry (which I usually am since I arrive in KL at late hours and am running to beat the taxi queue). Hope that gives you more confidence. |

International all the time - I get in during the evenings - in Jakarta now in fact, returning to KL on Wednesday evening.
Usually get out in front of that duty free store where I am forced to purchase duty free cigarettes for colleagues... Having said that, now that I think about it, my bags are always on the smaller side - I have never brought more than a medium sized bag and my laptop bag through customs. So, afraid I cant speak for those who intend to bring six trunks through Malaysian customs. This post has been edited by Ken6800: Jul 20 2008, 04:50 PM |

Good call. If they see that you dont anything in large volume to search for, and your travel destination didnt raise any flags, then they dont really have to flag you down and search you.
Thank God for small volume items, like iPhones. They may cost much, but they dont take much space. I can carry them into the country and still look like I'm travelling light. |

Currently I have my Iphone stucked at custom for about a month (since the 19th of June).
I was using USPS PRIORITY to courier it, which clearly was a mistake =( I shipped another Iphone using USPS FIRST CLASS and I received it on my doorstep with a breeze (No tax or whatsoever)! Initially, I thought that the customs would send it back to the original country if I do not collect it within 14 days as stated in the letter I received from the customs claiming that I have to get an AP from SIRIM. Today (after a month!), I just phoned them up about the status of my Iphone and according to them it's still stuck with customs and awaiting collection. They told me that Iphones CANNOT BE SENT BACK to its original country which clearly contradicts with what they mentioned in their letter. Anyway, how much does SIRIM AP for IPhone costs? I saw that some mentioned its only RM40, but others said it's RM250-RM350!!! (Just asking this in case you might not be able to help me as stated above) Would really appreciate you guys help on my enquiries. Thanks! |

QUOTE(yujin86 @ Aug 6 2008, 02:35 PM) Best method's the riskiest method, use regular air-mail, unregistered etc, from what I read in the other threads usually work but if the mail goes missing, then it's your loss..So in that sense, the best way is to just ask your bro to bring back for you when he comes back unless you wanna risk the SIRIM charges plus all the hassle in getting the procedures done... |
