hello guys, just join today

recently i bought 1800, so for starter should i use automatic setting or manual setting?

my current gears are:

Front >> KEF IQ9 ( wireworld orbit)
rear >> KEF IQ5 or IQ7 (sometimes i used 7.1 config)
(taralabs xxx i forgot the name)
Center>> KEF Q9C (taralabs)
Sub >> B&W ASW 300 (audioquest xxx also forgot)

any suggestion will be highly appreciated biggrin.gif

good setup u have there...
just use the YPAO setting 1st, if you don't like it, change to to your preference later...
*
i never like using ypao ever since 461.

so if i want to use manual, does anyone know how to maximize?

check your speaker res. frequency, those thing like 40Hz-20kHz thing
most of the time we set the cross over like 10-20Hz above the speakers' lower limit (40Hz - 20kHz, set at 60Hz or 80Hz)

THX recommendation is 80Hz, means all sound below *0Hz will sent to the sub woofer to handle.
*
errr... i'm quite confused,

so if my IQ9 specs like this:
Crossover frequencies: 250Hz, 2.8kHz. Frequency range: 38Hz–40kHz. Sensitivity: 91dB. Nominal impedance: 8 ohms. Recommended amplification: 15–200W.

The iQ7 has a 40 Hz - 40 kHz frequency response, 90 dB sensitivity, 15 - 150 watt power handling, and is 34" high, 8.7" wide, and 12.9" deep

what's your recommendation?

thx before thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Hi,

Am looking at the product bulletin for both the RX-V863 and the RX-V1065
Some of the differences i've noted are:

1065 has
USb port in front
1 extra HDMI port
GUI on-screen display wit album art

don't notice any other differences.

In this case, i think i'll just pick up the 863.
some have claimed that the 863 is running out of stock - is this true?
Also, price range should be around RM2.6-2.7k?
*
why don't you upgrade your choice to 1800?

that's what i did, first, i'm thinking to buy 863, then dealer recommend me 1800

the price gap is less than $200

since 1800 build in material is better than 863, so the sound produces well.

agree, since the price different is not that much
but very hard to find 1800 nowadays, everywhere also no stock rclxub.gif
*
same as in Jakarta, i got the last stock w/ clearance sale US$1100 rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

most of shops selling 1900, but i think the difference is not important.

who care about digital radio broadcast??

anyway why would i use my quite expensive 1800 just for digital radio rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

From 1600 to 1900, basically each model also not much different...if can get this mid range model around RM2K++ would be very very good price is standard price would be about Rm4K
*
yess, my old 1600 sound quality almost the same as my 1800, since both using the same material i guess.

that's one of yamaha weakness, no additional power or feature between 1600-1900, except those HD audio and digital broadcast mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

just called Desa HT (Kepong)

......

currently using RX-V450... thinking to upgrade...

is it big improvement from 663 to 665?
*
regarding yamaha business model, i think its no big different from 663, especially sql.

the benefits only minor changes, like extra hdmi input & upscale to 1080p (finally)

Guys,
I had a 1800 for over a year I guess or maybe less. I only used YPAO to setup, I'm just wondering.

Why does the crossover always stays at 200hz.
Why does the speaker size always sets at Large.

How do you guys equalize the speakers? Natural/Flat/Front?
What else am I missing out here. I would like to see what I can change and perhaps sound better.

I've been using my 1800 just pure direct for music for the past couple of months.

Help is much appreciated.
*
ouch, i tried my 1800 in pure direct for stereo, the sound still Rough.

i prefer buying another cheap stereo amplifier like Cambridge Audio

give it a try, and you wont using your 1800 again for stereo brows.gif brows.gif brows.gif

Harsh is the word, but after running non-bi-wired and a copperhead it sounded a little better.
*
thx for your info rclxms.gif

since silver makes your system bright, copperhead is the best choice.

unfortunately i can't try, since my cables are all silver shakehead.gif

I'm eagerly waiting for 665 as well, called A&L they said its coming in June. Patience..  tongue.gif
*
if you seek better sql, then you waste your time waiting for 665 biggrin.gif

my first receiver is yammy 461, then >> 463, the only difference is HDMI Audio, the sound quality is the same.

same with my yammy 1600, then >> 1800, the DD & DTS quality is almost identical.

each time yammy launch new receiver, its only minor upgrade, upscale, digital radio, bla bla, not sql.

wait for yammy 663 dropped its price....then it's a good bargain.

Hi tongkito...

thanks for advice...  smile.gif
If not mistaken, DVD output 480 (as what i see this appear in my LCD TV) and with upscaling, the output via HDMI will be 1080 right?

I never seen the actual quality of upscaling on LCD TV....

to all SiFus....

Is the upscaling quality of DVD to 1080 is close to BlueRay 1080?
*
IMO, if your source player only support 480 i/p, upscaled to 1080p....then what you see is more or less like stretching the pictures into bigger size.

i've tried playing my Playstation one, upscaled to 1080p.... it only tears my eyes.....lol

dvd upscaling can't match the natural BD 1080, my pioneer dv600 show less differences when i upscaled to 720p or 1080p.

i don't know if you are using dedicated upscaler, maybe it could be better

just thinking that 665 got upscaling... then connect DVD to it and it can upscaling to 1080... haha...

wait it launch then go audit...  laugh.gif
*
yeah, if you buy 665, then you dont need to buy dvd w/ upscaling feature.

i think both 665 & dvd w/ built in upscaler are in the same quality, not using processor biggrin.gif

previously there are also 363 & 463. Just my opinion on this 465, it seems like a waste of money and either you'll upgrade it in very near future, or just enjoy it like some htibs.
I would save up more if i were to choose an AVR, at least a 6xx for start.
*
wait wait, i just realize that yamaha is downgrading its series.

now Yamaha 465 support DTS-HD, last time was 663 series which support dts-hd

if the price gap between 463 & 465 is small, than go for 465, you can enjoy dts hd on low end models now thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Suddenly, a lot of us bitten by the 'HT bugs' tongue.gif

1800 still available? IMHO, the upgrade in 1900 is too minimal to justify its price tag
*
100% agree, not a big jump from 1800
