Hi all,

I'm a newbie in this area and have recently just invested quite some hard-earned cash on a set of HT.

I just got myself a Yamaha RX-V863 last week together with a set of Yamaha speakers (NS-555, NS-C444, NS-333). So far its sounds really good and definitely much better than my Logitech Z-5500 that I was using for HT for quite a while now.

I've got some queries that I was hoping some of you sifus here can help with...

1. When watching movies, I have to turn up the volume to about -20db to achieve sufficient loudness. Is this normal? When listening to music, -35db is already quite loud.

2. My yamaha NS-555 speakers are 6ohm and I hv set the amp to 6ohm min setting. is it ok to hook up a pair of 8ohm speakers to use as Presence speakers? Will this damage anything?

Thanks in advance.

hai abrellm & MX510,

Welcome to Yummie CLub!!

Thanks sham73!

I got my entire set from Legend SS2.
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V863
Front Speakers: Yamaha NS-555
Center Speakers: Yamaha NS-C444
Surround Speakers: Yamaha NS-333

The speakers came as a set.

I also managed to scrounge up some old Yamaha speakers that I have (NX-something) and made that my Surround Back speakers.

So far these are so much better sounding than my old Logitech Z-5500 Digital that has served me for the last 3 years.

Still very new in this very expensive hobby biggrin.gif

Just a question, has anyone here with a RXV863 used the multi-channel input of the receiver?

Omg how much did you pay for the speaker set ?

Front Speakers: Yamaha NS-555
Center Speakers: Yamaha NS-C444
Surround Speakers: Yamaha NS-333

and where is your woofer ?

Oops.. woofer: Yamaha YST-RSW300

The whole set of speakers costs abt RM 3.6k incl. the woofer.

Was deciding whether I shld go for the Diamond 8's but finally decided on these becos of the piano black finishing that matches with the colour scheme of my living room smile.gif

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but for RM3.6k, why wouldn't you go for "proper" speaker brand rather than Yamaha?
*
aiya... no parade la.. like i said still very new in this. have to talk more with all the sifus here.

as to why i chose yamaha... hehehe... actually its lack of self-control. smile.gif

Based on my not-very-tuned ears... I feel that so far for movies it sounds way better than what i had... granted what i had were PC speakers la.

for music.. when listening through Pure Direct, it sounds natural, not very bass-y. i think the vocals are clear. I tried with one of the Mariah Carey CDs song "Fantasy" which has quite tight bass in the beginning and the bass wasnt that great. its ok for me because i prefer more vocal kind of music anyways.

i am sure listening to some of the setups of the sifus here will make mine sound really cheap.. biggrin.gif

I think RM3.6k is speakers only.  For that price or a little more, can get brands like Mission, Monitor Audio, etc...

Yeah u r right - for speakers plus sub-woofer.
can i get mission speakers for this price?!
