Called Yamaha office to enquire on the expected arrival of the V-X65 AVR series (i am interested in the entry level V465 with TrueHD and DTS-MA).Was told that these are not Asian models (???)

Damn..... how true is this? Could they possibly debut it during the AV Fair?? Does Yammy do the AV Fair, any sifus know??

My thoughts exactly.... i called them as told them i am asking about the availability of their AVR VX65 series.... and the voice on the other side went "errr.... whats AVR??"..... i was unsure if i was tickled or pissed at that....

Was passed to another person, a Mr Lim, who then told me that its prolly not an Asian version, and ended up saying "donno"...

I hang up laughing my ass off.....

Pssst... any idea how much is a amateur / beginner PSB 5.1 speaker set cost? What is the model and whr can i audit them? Wanna couple it with the Yammy V465.... pls help!!

Yammy new V-X65 series is now available in Desa, prices are:-

V365 - RM1490 (entry level 5.1 channel with 4 HDMI)
V465 - RM1990 (entry level 5.1 channel with DD TrueHD and DTS-MA, 4 HDMI, YPAO)
V565 - RM2390 (entry level 5.1 channel with DD TrueHD and DTS-MA, 4 HDMI upscaling 1080p, YPAO)
V665 - RM2890 (mid level 7.1 channel with DD TrueHD and DTS-MA, 4 HDMI upscaling 1080p, YPAO)

The AVRs are in sweet black, but prices are high as they are new models. Desa will feature them in AV Fest in July, but as they have stock now, they are selling them to the early adopters.

The 663 has 2 HDMI only, while 665 has 4..... the rest is too technical for me. At RM2890, it became mid level due to price...

At Desa, the Onkyo SR606 is going for RM2300 now, in black and silver. Pioneer 1018 is at RM2700 now, both seems to be better spec-ed than the V665.

Anyone can get ur paws on 663 at RM1599 at Desa, go for it.

But according to my sources, the 663 have been out of stock in Desa since 1 month ago and last selling price was RM1699, so mayb someone has better info than me.

The ones i saw in Desa LYP is all black, mayb thats the reason the prices are more expensive due to it being in black??

Yammy is prolly trying positioning the 665 against the Pioneer VSX1018 and other competitor models like SR606 and others, which are priced arnd that.

I still think its crazy of them to push the 665 to the next level price bracket, and even the 465 is position at the old 663 price level. So anyone else seen a 663 out there now???

Bro, there was a box of Z11 tucked in a corner.... that would be the highest end of all.

Nothing higher than the 665. Opps correction, there was a Z11 but no special offer price on that unit...

New units are 20% off the RRP with 12 months warranty, while opened units (displayed units with no connection, i checked the connectors) are at 30% off whith 6 months warranty. No easy payment or interest free schemes whatsoever.

Was there early at 1030am, was targeting the 465 to replace my Pioneer VSX518. I dont need 1080p upscale but simply passthru, but love to have the HD audio options. Dont need 7.1 output as i have only a 5.1 speaker set, but the 465 has pre-out for the back surround, so i can still drive that with relatively cheap power amp if i choose to go 7.1 later.

Was hesitant to get the Titanium Silver open unit at first (priced RM1393) but Grace quickly showed me the Black Noir open unit. Snapped it up and will set it up later tonite. Cant wait....

Good luck in trying to find the open unit now. When i left there at 11, there were 2 open units (or 1 new and 1 open, not sure).

Yes, there were quite a few models there, mostly 30% off.

For less than RM700 (RM693 i think) there is one down firing sub (cant recall the model, there was an uncle looking for down firing sub under 700, the sales guy showed him this.). I think there is a 215 model there too.

Sorry, had no interest in subs, so cant be exact on the model.

Yeah.... anyway, great to join the Yammy club.....

Cant wait to setup the 465, but can only do it tomorrow evening.

That would be me, i was in a beige T-Shirt with black strips on the arms and collar.... was busy on the phone that i missed a fellow yammy owner carrying a new AVR. Would have spoken to you if i had noticed you carrying the AVR....

Added on August 2, 2009, 2:59 amYou can manually set it up the 465 to determine that the Sub and the surrounds as "None", thus making it a 3.0 system driver. I dont think the auto setup YPAO works without the other 2.1, but you can try.

I dont quite trust the YPAO, as the sound is not as to my liking. Had to manually tweak all the speaker settings to get them right. But setup was easy and with all 4 inputs and output is via HDMI, the rear cluster is really lessened now.

Also, i would put priorities on the Subs first, effectively building a 2.1 system as opposed to a 3.0. Notice most other systems are built 2.1 instead of 3.0, as the Subs will vastly improve the movie and music experience while the LR speakers can share the load of the Center. But this is my preference.

Good buy, did u get the open or new unit? Am loving the 465 after manually tweaking the unit to my liking, now need to see if the sound improves after the burn in period.

It may be too late for this advice, but there were Yammy subs at the clearance. There was a "down-firing" sub at sub 800 (pun intended... haha) and the 215 model was sub 600. Add that to you 3.0 and you get yrself a sweet 3.1, now all you need are the back speakers.

Hmmm... at 1.2 - 1.5, you could go the Yammy sub (at 800) and enuff left over to get the back speakers, and if u budget it correctly, the new TV shelf (not cabinet or tv rack, but shelf)...

There are a few considerations (mostly mine) for u to decide.

1. Are you happy that you are not getting the Lossless audio that the BD60 is able to bitstream out? Are you contended with your current audio output?

2. Are you happy with the amount of cables running at the back (BD60 HMDI -> TV, AVR CoAx ->, etc), meaning much cables running all over the back? Or u prefer all HD (audio and video) to stream via HMDI -> AVR -> TV, making it much cleaner.?

3. Are u happy with yr current setup? Or you upgrade coz u wanna and can afford it?

Then decide if its a step you wanna make.

For me, I wanted to eliminate the cable clusters as my WDTV, PS3, Xbox360 and DVD are via HDMI/component -> LCD for 1080p, while the audio via coax and digital cables to AVR. Add to that Wii, Astro and aerial coax, the cables are all over the place (even if they are hidden using casing) and you have shielding noise problem if you stick too much cables with each other.

With a new HDMI 4 in /1 out AVR (V465), its solves my greatest concern.

So what are yours??

I am merely suggesting the questions, as the decision are all yours to make.

Are you sending the MPCM via HDMI to the AVR?? So the cable mgmt thing may not be an issue to you, sorry as i didnt know yr setup.

There are detail differences from 1080i to 1080p, but its noticeable.

Simple test for yr eyes. Play a BD scene using yr current setup, as yr AVR will output it in 1080i (am i right?). Then set the BD60 HDMI cable directly to yr LCD (instead of yr AVR), and replay the same scene. As long as yr BD outputs at 1080p and yr LCD displays 1080p, then see if you can notice the difference in details when displayed in 1080p (u did say yr LCD is FUllHD ya??)

Then decide of buying a RM3K++ amp is worthy the upgrade to 1080p visuals (and the boasting right to show TrueHD or DTSMA words on yr 1900)....

Best way to find out price is to walk in and haggle. Desa Kepong usually offers the best prices amongst the Desas.

I was there when they lifted the veil on the new Vx65 series (2 weeks before the official launch in MY), and posted the prices back then, they were selling them at actual RRP....

How prices have fallen.... with a boost from Yammy themselves during their clearance warehouse sales. Was surprised to see the new V365, V465 and V565 selling at 20% and 30% off.

Dont think you can find any new 663 anymore, have been out of stock (not to mention replaced by 665) many moons ago.

U can try used unit tho...
