The speakers plug into the subwoofer-based amp with RCA-type connectors.

Can the sub woofer be connected to the AVR ? How biggrin.gif ?

Creative Gigaworks S750 7.1 speaker surround system ........

Yes i know what your thinking ( da fuggin nub ).

What to do, i'm not a pro so i don't know what is a cheap and better alternative.

I've been asking around whether my speakers would work on this av receiver but nobody gave a damn except me so bleh -.-;

Anyway is the S750 speakers good enough or should i change the speakers ? ( my budget is rather low ... as in below 1k ..... ) icon_question.gif

Ps: i bought mine for Rm 1.8k notworthy.gif LEGEND RAWKS! I'm a regular there laugh.gif

I ask them doh.gif already.

Actually the technician is coming over on Saturday to setup for me ( since im a nub... )

Asking for Yamaha speaker pricing doh.gif

I also intend to start of with 2 front left and right speakers eventually.

The problem is, i don't know much about speakers. Like what is good, or not biggrin.gif

My budget is 1000 :/

I was looking at the HTIB speakers which are thin champagne flutes ( think it was a LG ) that look fashionable and nice, although i don't know if these sort of speakers are worth their weight in gold o_O;

Is Legend the best place to go for speakers ? Maybe i can go window shopping first to see.

My ultimate goal is to achieve 5.1 surround sound.

Using the S750 on my pc with Auzentech Prelude sound card, i did not see much of a difference between 5.1 and 7.1 This may also be because there are rarely if any 7.1 surround sound audio material out there to begin with.

And from what Steve at Legend told me, this receiver doesn't matrix/upsample 5.1 sources to 7.1 anyway.

5.1 is good enough for me biggrin.gif But need to start of with 2 speaker first cause expensive to buy 1 shot cry.gif

Added on May 8, 2008, 1:17 pmThis is a good guide i found

http://www.audioholics.com/buying-guides/s...e-bones-system/

However i need to one that is Rm 1000 below budget to get 2.1 stereo first, and maybe 5.1 eventually :]

Another good article

I’d like to draw your attention to the construction of the tweeter. It is the first time Creative uses a high-frequency speaker of the dome type with a titanium membrane in its satellites. Titanium adds rigidity to the membrane, allowing to fully embrace the range of high frequencies and the ultrasound range. That’s why the manufacturer proudly wrote down the audiophile range of 25Hz-40kHz in the specification.

I think the SR-4002 is likely a very good receiver, and should do just about anything audiowise you would need it too. The RX-V663 doesn't have a huge advantage with video or audio processing as I would only use the decoding inside a Blu-ray player to get my HD audio anyway (the Blu-ray secondary audio tracks only work when the Blu-ray player handles the decoding). The audio sent from the Blu-ray player is pure uncompressed multichannel PCM, meaning there is no loss of sound quality, in fact it should sound exactly the same as having the receiver decode from the HD audio bitstream (Dolby True HD, DTS-HD, Dolby Digital Plus).

The Onkyo should be dropped from the running period, it's l ikely under the power bracket of the Marantz and Yamaha receivers, has heat issues, has reported popping issues, and a few other beefs such as quality audio production (which may or may not be a real problem and it could just be in people's heads).

All that said, the Yamaha has a slight advantage in features over the Marantz. Those features may never be used though (such as HDMI 1.3 features). Neither receiver has a phono input, so an external phono preamp (which is generally prefered) would be needed for LP playback. Both receivers have preouts for all channels, so using the Marantz or Yamaha as a preamp with power amplifiers is an option. This is not so with the Onkyo.

I already have a PS3 so i knew it played the DTS, HD DTS and MA DTS, however i wasn't sure that you can hook up external speakers without an AV Receiver which was why i bought the 663.

So if you have a PS3 is it worth getting an AV receiver or is it not needed ? The video features aren't really needed by me as i have a popcorn media streamer that will play the videos for me. So the popcorn would pass through the audio to the AV Receiver to get DTS. Hopefully in future they will release a popcorn 2 that can pass through HD DTS and MA DTS.

Thanks sham73!

I got my entire set from Legend SS2.
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V863
Front Speakers: Yamaha NS-555
Center Speakers: Yamaha NS-C444
Surround Speakers: Yamaha NS-333

The speakers came as a set.

I also managed to scrounge up some old Yamaha speakers that I have (NX-something) and made that my Surround Back speakers.

So far these are so much better sounding than my old Logitech Z-5500 Digital that has served me for the last 3 years.

Still very new in this very expensive hobby biggrin.gif

Just a question, has anyone here with a RXV863 used the multi-channel input of the receiver?
*
Omg how much did you pay for the speaker set ?

Front Speakers: Yamaha NS-555
Center Speakers: Yamaha NS-C444
Surround Speakers: Yamaha NS-333

and where is your woofer ?

PS3 HDMI Out to AVR HDMI In => AVR HDMI Out to HDTV HDMI In

But from my understanding, if do this way, doesn't that mean the amplifier will be processing the video instead of the PS3 ??? I hear the 663 is limited in terms of video scaling and etc. So wouldn't it be better for the PS3 to handle video, and the PS3 to handle only audio ?? hmm.gif

Thanks everyone notworthy.gif

Which HDMI cable do i buy, the cheap Rm 20 one, or the expensive Rm 100+ hdmi cable ?? rclxub.gif any advise.

thx apisgogo and everyone else.

So which hdmi brand and model is cheap would you get ?? curious.

I was hoping to go shopping for 1 x coaxial and 1 x hdmi cable today biggrin.gif

I found out from the popcorn hour forum that right now my component wiring is allowing 24000 hz AAC audio sources to play fine on my popcorn. They said that DTS will not work over component which is why i have to switch the connection to a digital coaxial and set the popcorn to output dts as digital raw.

The downside they said was 24000 aac is not supported over digital...... so i would then have to constantly be changing the wiring connection type everytime i want to watch videos with 24000 aac audio, or videos encoded with dts audio .....

Is there any solution for this as well, like a switch of sorts biggrin.gif ??? Not sure if that made sense >_<:

So the popcorn each have 1 hdmi to v663, and 663 only has 1 hdmi to the hdtv. Got it :]

I will try that.

I personally think PS3 is better than Xbox 360.

However it can be argued that Xbox 360 is better in terms of pricing ..... however i think PS3 40 gb price tag isn't too bad and is worth the purchase.

Anyway the PS3 is my dvd player :]

With my Popcorn and the Yamaha 663 i notice this

After i setup popcorn to HDMI input to Yamaha 663 out to HDTV i get the following support

HDMI Setup

1. DTS works ( in the 663 must go to the option to set as coaxial for the popcorn input connection if you want to enable dts decoding by the receiver )

2. AC3 works

3. AAC 24000 hz works HOWEVER the volume is very low .....

4. FLAC works

5. OGM does not work

RCA Setup

1. DTS does not work

2. AC3 works

3. AAC 48000 hz works

4. OGM does not work

Right now i am trying to get AAC 24000 hz to work with a louder sound on my receiver. Also need to test if 48000 hz works via HDMI as it had previously worked when i used the RCA connection which is weird.

Overall the Popcorn meets 85 % of my target media files which is very good.

RX you buying from where and for how much ? Gratz by the way thumbup.gif

Got my 663 today from Legend SS2. The price has drop a bit. Titanium color just like my previous 461. This thing is a lot bigger than 461. The height and depth is much more but same width.

1st impression sq wise shocking.gif never regret buying.

Suddenly my 5.1 yammy speakers sounded like they worth much more than they actually are. I thought my center speaker is lousy but now dialog is so clear even at lower volume. I just use basic setting, set speaker to 6 ohm, turn off the eq than pop in Cars DVD into my Pioneer and send every bits thru hdmi. Pheww  sweat.gif took just 5 mins  laugh.gif no sweat  tongue.gif

To put it short...sweeett  laugh.gif I love it  wub.gif

Now need to study the manual, test CD, test straight mode, direct mode, ipod, 17 dsp mode, bla bla  sweat.gif

Not even 1 day already itchy to get another 2 speakers for back surround  laugh.gif

If you thinking of buying 663, dont hold ur horses. Just go get it  thumbup.gif
