There's clicking sound, just a light 'tak' sound from my AVR when I'm switching to another input but no sounds or anything from the speakers. Maybe the AVR might be faulty if there's sound coming out from the speakers.

Yup, same here. I suspect HDMI handshake issue, that's why I suggest him to try other cables. Just to confirm. biggrin.gif

As long as u calibrate it properly, then it 'should' be alright.. do ypao first for initial.. then manual it.. hmm i got really confuse with ypao+EQ... wtf natural/flat.. soo confusing for me.. got a friend to do it.. now the surround is not bad.. as for ure center.. if not mistaken in the avr manual it teach how to raise the center speaker sound upwards.. just try that.. cant remember on which page. but im sure its there
*
Agreed. Calibrated properly, and the center height thing, it's in the manual to raise it. Read the manual. icon_rolleyes.gif

I already knew about the new models. The speaker posts for 1900 still too close to each other, one of the trouble for me when I use bare wires. The rated power for Yamaha always falls apart in real world tests. This and many others are not big issue, but they helped me make my decision. wink.gif

Sorry guys, I've turned to the darkside. laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

PS: The remotes for the new models is a total make over. I like it, nice job Yamaha. thumbup.gif

Yup, can only choose one setup. So you can still enjoy them if you already have 7 speakers, only have to switch back and forth every time you change from presence to surround back, or the other way around. If you have 9 speakers, then no problem. biggrin.gif

About that short thing, I also never kena... hmm.gif

That's well said Kiam. But only set your speakers to large if it can handle frequencly as low as 30Hz. If not, it could hurt the speakers.

If you connect to other than the sub pre-out, what your sub is receiving is only the frequencies intended for the original speakers, and usually these channels won't go as low. And most importantly, you'll not hear anythng from the dedicated LFE track in movies (the .1 in the 5.1 channels).

As most receivers only have subwoofer pre-outs, the subwoofer must be active, meaning it has a built-in amp. It can never drive a passive subwoofer by it's own.

Djdyks, does you mini hi-fi got line in? If yes, you can use it as an amp for your sub. Connect the pre-out to the line in, and the subwoofer to the hi-fi as usual. Turn it on and select the line-in input. Run the auto-calibration again at the 861 again.

This is temporary solution, my advise is to get an active subwoofer quick.

Even if the driver is 6.5" but if it can't handle frequencies as low as 30Hz, I still recommend to set is as small so you can crossover the low frequencies to the sub. When set to large, all the frequency range will be fed to the speakers. This is most important while listening to stereo music (if you use subwoofer, not pure direct).

For 5.1 source, the low frequencies (maybe <80Hz according to THX standards) have already been discretely channeled to the LFE (.1) track by in the studio's mixing room. But you can still set the AVR to crossover low frequencies from the small speakers if the speakers' low frequency roll off is high (maybe 120Hz).

I am. Tomorrow night I should be able do bass management for each speakers. But that can't be discussed in a Yamaha thread. whistling.gif

Why so serious? laugh.gif

3800 and 805 are not in the same league even though they're in the same price range. 3800's match is 875.

Go for audition with same set of speakers. If I were to choose between those 2 (if I like both sounds), I would still choose 805 because of small extra features it has.
