Wah, Bro Arj betul-betul Elite like mpyw, both of you won't settle for anything less than a CHT-12R. I got no choice lah, limited budget so I settled for CHT-10R but no regrets, I love the bass, deep and firm. I only use a quarter of the volume of the sub, it's already loud enough for me. It's a good choice for your Yamaha amp.  rclxms.gif

Me only eyeing CHT-10R. If I can get good price for 12R then I can consider. sweat.gif

Actually I'm more preferred to SVS than Velodyne. Even their 10" sub, PB10-NSD can go as deep as 20Hz. Got very good reviews too. One reviewer compares this to REL.

But sadly it's not available locally, ordering online is too risky and with tax, may cost even more than Velodyne CHT-12R.

Do you have their address and contact number? Anybody in particular should I look for? I'm not familiar with Kepong area. Thanks

Just visited Desa Kepong last week. They didn't have SW250, but a WH series, 210 I think. Maybe their Lowyat Plaza branch has it.

The Kepong HQ is at the Desa Kompleks, between MRR2 and Jalan Kepong, not far from Jusco Metro Prima.

Thanks bro. I'll call them and check it out. I know where Jusco Kepong is so I can start from there  biggrin.gif
You'll be surprise the price at AV fair this year won't be cheaper than you expected. That's the tips from A&L  whistling.gif
Haha tell me about it. Happened to me twice. The 1st one when I want to purchase Philips 5986K. I end up take my deposit back after a few days and go buy from ESH nearby. Got Bonuslink point some more at ESH  biggrin.gif . 2nd time when I ordered yammy sub model 215 and I ended buying 315 instead because of the same promises....yes boss got stock no problem and 2 days later...boss do you want 315 instead? 215 no stock la rolleyes.gif
So if you said they are "kambeng" I couldn't agree more  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

Don't be afraid to go in there, the building looks like abandoned or something. I goes there only for 2 things, Desa HT and JPN. laugh.gif

Hi-Fi must slowly upgrade one mah. At least, you bought a Velodyne for a start.
I went there twice, the Desa Kompleks really in bad shape like Imbi Plaza, but then, the prices at Desa Kepong really cheaper than their branch at Low Yat Plaza. Thinking of buying either a Marantz or Denon universal dvd player from them to listen to my SACDs and DVD Audios in my next trip to KL. They quoted me a very good price if I pay cash.
Wah, where got ppl like that one, after accepting payment than only say no stock. Very unprofessional.  mad.gif
Boycott them.  vmad.gif

Hi Guys... I am planning to do some upgrade to my current HTIB (Pioneer HTZ656DVD), and am looking at the Yamaha RX-V663 AVR. My question is, if I just buy the RX-V663, will I be able to connect my existing Pioneer speakers & sub-woofer (from the HTZ656DVD set) to the new RX-V663?

I checked the Pionner Malaysia's website and found that the 5 speakers that I've now are only 4 ohms and the subwoofer is a 16cm passive one. I remember reading somewhere in the forum that the Yamaha RX-V663 will only connect to 6 to 8 ohm speaker (??).

Here's the spec of HTZ656DVD from Pioneer's website:
http://www.pioneermalaysia.com.my/specHTZ656.htm
So will I be able to connect my existing Pioneer speakers & subwoofer to the RX-V663 and still get the 5.1 surround effect, DTS, Dobly Digital, etc...?

Another question is regarding the "upconversion" function of RX-V663. I read somewhere that it's different from upscaling. But if I connect Astro to it using S-Video, and use HDMI cable from it to my LCD TV (1080i), will the Astro PQ get improved? If yes, to what extent? Will it become 1080i after the "upconversion"?

By the way, what do you guys think about Pioneer VSX-917-S versus Yamaha RX-V663?
*
Yes, you can use the existing 5 speakers, later on when you have more budget you can upgrade to higher range speakers. On the 663 you MUST set it as 6 ohm. Any speakers lower than 4 ohm will give the receiver a hard time, and may overheat.

For the sub, you'll need a separate amp, as most AV receivers only has pre-out (sending out the signal non-amplified). My advice is to get a new active subwoofer.

You'll always get to hear the 5.1 audio codecs, and with 663 even the HD lossless tracks, for this part, it's the receiver that's important. But to get the best sound, you'll need good speakers.

Not sure about 663, but my 1800 can upscale analogue sources (S-video/RCA, not digital sources like HDMI) to up to 1080p. But I can only see little improvements, because Astro quality sucks to begin with. Like people always say, rubbish in rubbish out.

I don't have any experience with the Pioneer receiver though. wink.gif

663 doesn't upscale ar? OK. I don't think it's worth RM1k for the upscaling anyway. All the lossless codecs + multi-channel PCM is really what matters most, at least for it's price.

Is the warranty still on?

If not just open it yourself, and see if there's any loose wires or something, and clean up a bit. biggrin.gif

Welcome to the Yammy club bro! rclxms.gif

For a DVDP component for video and coaxial for audio will suffice.

When you have blu-ray player later on, you'll need HDMI to carry the the high-bandwidth lossless audio.

Guys a quick question. Been looking around the forums and couldnt find my answer. If I were to buy the 663, can I use the speakers from the HTIB that I wrongly bought which is the Pioneer HTZ363DVD. At the back of the speakers it says 4 ohms. Please advise and thanks in advance.
*
Only for fronts bro, and you have to set the AVR to 6 ohm. It's not recommended to use speakers with too low impedance. Your AVR could overheat.

I suggest you sell the whole set, and start again. Sorry bro, I know that's not easy.

Never happened to mine bro. Sometimes this can caused by the HDMI cable. You can try changing the cable.

Aiman,
then I might be wrong on my theories.
sorry bout that.
Anyway, how does your BR2 sound with your yammy? strong hard bass or subtle?
*
When using Pure Direct mode, which can only be fair to your question, the bass is really subtle. Meaning it's just all natural. biggrin.gif

I don't mean by signal quality. Maybe the cable is faulty? You can just give it a try, troubelshooting, no harms done. If the cable pass the test, then it could be your AVR.

Clicking sound by the AVR is normal, but he said the sound also came from the speakers. hmm.gif
