Any ideas from where i can start ? One of my friend recommended me to try the e-trade but it dont have the malaysia stock exchange .

5k will be enough for you to start off with one or two counters. i wouldnt recommend you spreading out too much with just 5k. if you want diversification, just pick ETF. or you could pick a few stocks , analyze them then decide to buy or not.

For one, I would recommend reading the the stock market FAQ on Bursa Malaysia website. This sub-forum has a link thread where a lot of information can be acquired when visting those links. Unfortunately there are no "NEWBIE TRAINING" threads in this sub-forum yet, so you have to do some work to learn as much as you can before you dive into stock markets. Good luck and keep learning and reading as much as you can. As long as you don't expect to be spoon-fed and ask sincerely, a lot of knowledgeble forummers will gladly help. Hope you enjoy your time here.

when CI is up, i basically means that most of the share prices are up (may not neccessary means all share price are up). People get capital gains which can then sell off to make profit.
When CI is down, its possible to do short selling of stocks(sell stocks which you do not have and buy back later), it is not allowed in Bursa Malaysia.
CI is made up of selected components of stock to represent how the overall market is doing. If those share goes up, CI goes up. even if the others shares drops.

Im not sure about the minimum age requirement to open a CDS account. In Msia, you need a CDS account to trade in share market. You can always go OSK Investment Bank and ask or open the CDS account.
If you're new in share investment, can always try in virtual share market. This is quite good, CIMB itrade.
