Driving force GT or G27?
*
u get what u pay for, both are good wheel but G27 cost more so its definitely better than DFGT in terms of quieter FFB, 3 foot pedals, H Shifter, and flappy paddle rather than DFGT's button paddle.

That said DFGT is no slouch either and really value for that budget range.

So really it depends on ur budget and requirement.

guys, looking forward to buy logitech G27 in 1/2 months time. I found many good review and feedback about the best bang for buck for the G27 wheels.
For confirmation, what do you guys think of the G27 wheels? smile.gif is it worth the money?
*
Yup definitely bang for buck if u have the passion for it.

Definitely not worth it if u buy it and let it gather dusk. laugh.gif

What genre of racing games u enjoy?
My personal opinion after playing quite a number of racing game and simulation.

Pure arcade- Definitely Grid 2, tho I play it more using my gamepad than using my wheel. So far the only arcade racing genre game I play using wheel is Dirt series(Dirt 3 etc).

Semi-Simulation- Quite a number of positive review for Codemaster's F1 series(latest one is F1 2013) but somehow I haven't get the hang of it yet but maybe u can give it a go.

Full blown hardcore simulation- For me I vote for Rfactor 2, other new simulation are still yet to be released by respective dev yet. Iracing is a fantastic choice too if u don't mind subscription fee basis.

Hi guys

I'm a racing enthusiast and want to get started on a racing sim.  I'm an absolute noob on this.  For a beginner, what would be a good setup to have?

I heard about rfactor but can I know how is this different from a Ps4 or xbox racing games?

Can the pedals and steering wheel like G27 be used on a ps4 racing sim game?

Can members here point me to a trusted vendor where I can get such supplies from?

Many thanks and sorry for the noob questions
*
hello and welcome to sim racing,

what would be a good setup to have?
- this all depends on your budget, for wheel and pedals can range from budget range Logitech DFGT to high end Thrustmaster T500RS, for cockpit can range from cheap and cost-less desk and plastic chair to high end proper cockpit setup with triple screens. It all boils down to your budget and also how good you are at improvising or DIY when on limited budget.

I heard about rfactor but can I know how is this different from a Ps4 or xbox racing games?
- rfactor 2 already superseded rfactor in case u didn't know yet. Between PC sims vs Console sims, imo(might be bias towards PC) PC sims are more hardcore, complex and detailed while console sims are simple and straight to the point to cater commercial purposes and mass audience. When I say hardcore and complex, I mean physics are more accurate, the availability of many other features like tire wear, dynamic weather, dynamic track grip condition, more car setups available, vehicle damage model etc.
In simpler terms, PC sim racing(and I'm talking about real PC sims, not F1 2013 etc) is for a niche market of racers who willing to spend time practice. While console sim racing like Forza and GT6 cater more to mass gamers who prefer to directly get into the action of a racing game.

Can the pedals and steering wheel like G27 be used on a ps4 racing sim game?
- As long as the games and platform supports it then it will be no problem, I'm not well verse on the new gen of console(PS4 and XB1) so you gotta google more to find out.

Can members here point me to a trusted vendor where I can get such supplies from?
- Again this depends what are u looking for? Need to be more specific but there are quite alot of racing cockpit and wheel & pedal set sellers out there. Just gotta find a right priced one then you're good to go.

Feel free to join us at Malaysian Sim Racers as members there are more than willing to help you

Thanks so much for your prompt reply, Shirley Andy ...

As a beginner, I'll be looking at some basic setup with some degree of realism.

For a start, a proper cockpit with seat (or any recommendation that can simulate this setup too? Hehe) and as you say, the logitech dfgt and single monitor first.  What about PC?  Any minimum requirements and what game disc should I be looking at from a beginners perspective?

I've just joined the group and will look see, get an idea and move from there

Thanks for the guidance again, cheers

Which games? I only qualified to give my opinion on PC sim racing as I'm not into console sims.
imo if u like massive worldwide community where u can race them everyday in a instant just by clicking "join session/race", then go for iracing, downside is u gotta be willing to spend as everything(each cars and each track) is paid and monthly subscription must be paid as well.

there are also other sims such as Rfactor 2 which have dynamic road grip level, dynamic weather, community mod tracks and cars(most of which are free), one of the best(if not the best) ffb in any sims today. Downside is graphic not fully optimised and some might find managing different mods to join different race sessions a hassle and confusing.

and then there is assetto corsa, never tried this yet but feedback is its pretty good and many are waiting for the final release of the game as currently its under "Early Access" which multiplayer is currently unavailable(correct me if i'm wrong).

there is also Project CARS but imo I doubt this will be a serious sim like rf2 and iracing, but on the upside this games look pretty darn good graphically if you have a high end system to support it.

As for minimum requirement to run these? If u refer my siggy below, thats the spec I'm using to run rf2 and iracing at med settings, so I personally think its not that pricey to setup a PC for sim racing(unless ur the type of person who emphasis game graphics alot, but for me graphics are irrelevant when u fully concentrated racing in the sim)

Hardware setup, if tight on budget, start off with a table and a normal chair, I even heard of super fast drivers who used to race with stool sweat.gif so good and expensive setup won't necessarily make u go faster tongue.gif
I started off with very small budget as well and improvise with what I got, then only slowly upgrade to my current setup.
You can browse through this thread cuz its full of pictures of different types of setups from different forumers that u can find idea too,
here's what i started off with (clockwise from top right)

- was also thinking between whether I should run a single monitor or three monitor setup.  Wonder if PS3 supports multi display?  Is it a good idea to run multi display, in your opinion?  I mean, how immersive is the gameplay and whether will it make one nauseous after awhile?

*
Need to do your own research on whether console support triple screen as I'm not sure as well.

My advise is, getting a screen positioned as close as possible behind the steering wheel is more important than having triple screen, of course if u can bring it as close as possible and at the same time have triple screen then that's ideal. Cuz there's no point having a large monitor or 3 screens places far away. I've seen time and time again people(especially those racing with cockpit) have their monitor so far away(mainly due to the design of the cockpit and monitor stand). It completely ruin the potential immersion available to be experienced.

Anyway its great to have 3 screen and I doubt it can cause nauseousness, but as many have proven before, 3 screens may be more provide more immersion but it rarely contribute to faster laptimes, in some cases might even make you a lil' slower when initially not used to it.

Got the GT1 cockpit series from them

For the equivalent of rm 1300++ including shipping, I'm getting
- full cockpit frame
- integrated screen mount for up to 52 inch flat tv
- faux leather racing seat
- gear shift mount
- frame wheels

Best deal around by far, now just have to wait 3 weeks for shipment to arrive

Comparatively, the Apiga ap2 was quoted at Rm1900 without integrated screen mount, frame wheels and only fabric seats

Good deal bro thumbup.gif

theres a saying in simracing that all wheels are the same, only ur pedals set will make the difference.

having used crappy wheel before, I beg to differ tongue.gif

in some ways wheel with noisy motor makes scared to turn the wheel fast, cuz the faster I turn the louder the noise is.

Anyone here using gaming wheels with wheeled chairs? Thinking of getting a g27 but I don't have enough for a cockpit yet sad.gif
*
wheeled chairs? u mean like an office chair? not a good idea imo cuz later u might slide backward if u slam the throttle/brake pedal. sweat.gif

anyway not necessarily need cockpit, start off small, slowly upgrade when u can afford/willing to spend.

I'm not using cockpit too, just a normal computer table, but still a comfortable and racy setup to race in. icon_rolleyes.gif

hi all..
want to ask is there any driving wheel that is like g27 or g25 that are around RM500
*
Unfortunately no, unless its 2nd hand G25 or G27.

Other options around that range is Logitech Driving Force GT which cost a little lower than RM500. Lots programmable buttons on the wheel, also 900 degree rotation, if not mistaken same diameter as G25/G27 as well. Only downside is no clutch, no H shifter compared to G25/G27

~ Any suggestion for cheap driving wheel?
2nd hand is also ok...
im playing Euro Truck Simulator and after playing it with using my friend's Momo Racing driving wheel the game never feel the same as playing using keyboard!!
*
lol tbh momo not that suitable to drive lori cuz very low rotation degree but playing with a wheel is still better than none. thumbup.gif

what's ur budget? 2nd hand momo, which is VERY rare can get about RM150~RM200. 2nd hand DFGT can get about rm250~RM350.

What’s the cheapest cockpit you can buy here in Malaysia? Have a rig + monitor for it already. Also probably gonna buy G29.

cheapest is DIY using PVC pipe
