@bose - if wii is broken then watch bluray on ur PS3 with ur new AV receiver.....
i hope nothing is wrong with the Wii .. damn i've not even played SMBB yet. if its concerning the power side, i have 50/50 chances to repair it myself. hope it does have overcurrent /overvoltage/ built-in fuse in the wii itself.
you'll hear ALOT more out w/ the AV receiver . you'll notice how much you've missed w/o it.

most probably is the adaptor's problem..shouldnt affect ur wii at all......unless there was a current surge...else shud be fine... ...
hey, the Wii is on standby mode(red LED) when the adaptor blow.. tonight if i have free time i'll operate the adaptor and look in the detail what is the root cause. well, if the wii doesn't work anymore, i don't mind to operate it and post some pictures. i've got the proper screwdriver to do it.
my best advice for wii user : pls unplug the adaptor when you're not using it. if i am not mistaken.. its an official Wii adaptor that accept input voltage 100~240V. it did not go thru any stepdown trans.
Red is actually in "Off" mode. Which means WiiConnect24 is not in usage, and everything turns off.
Mine has been on since day one(the Wii, and adaptor), 80% of the time in orange mode(Standby), and 20% in red due to precaution panicking

AV receiver is the Yamaha V1800?? from?
you've a point there, andy .. surge current is might be one of the cause of the adaptor spark and blow. i might invest in a power filter / voltage regulator.
i wonder those AC inlet with built-in filter does help with surge. it doesn't come cheap range from rm50-100 each.
