Just installed my HR-03GT from thermalright on my 8800GT.

Their website states on idle the temps are at 36C.

Before on my stock cooler I get temps of 58C idle with fan speed on 60%.

After installing the HR-03GT I now have temps of 50-52C idle.

Somethings wrong, anyone got any ideas? icon_question.gif

Thanks!

edit: oh I don't have a fan installed on it, but I believe the temps on thermalright's is also without a fan.

Well you can't expect to be getting the exact same temp of 36C right? Even being the same brand, computer hardwares performance wary slightly or even more. Besides the ambient temps and the surrounding of the GC is another factor.

Anyway it will be better with a fan.

Well either way, I'd doubt that a fan would cut off like 15C off it. On my Antec P182 with all casing fans at low it went up to 54-55C.

Gonna try running a game now. OCIA reviewed and ran without a fan (passive) and got 42C idle.

Added on February 11, 2008, 7:24 pmOkay maybe 36C is a bit too far off, lets just say 45C even. 3C higher then OCIA's. I'm not even near it and I'm getting temps just a ~little~ better then my stock cooler.

I know a fan will cool it a lot better, but I really really doubt that a 55C high idle compared to a 42C to OCIA's results who also has idle temps without a fan.

Just played some crysis and got a peak so far about 64C. Thats not too bad and the air-cond isn't on.

Well, try ask ianho and see how his HR-03 is working. Should be fairly similar though. IIRC, his HR-03 does show significant drop in temperature as compared to the stock cooler. But yes, his one is installed with a fan. Rough guess on what i still remember, yes, his HR-03 does show 20c drop in temperature.

Anyway, the temperature shown in the official site is just an estimation. You still need to keep in mind the type of fan it use, the fan's CFM, the ambient temperature, casing's airflow etc to obtain that optimum temperature. Besides, this type of cooler would perform better (in term of temperature drop) during LOAD. So, try obtain the load temperature before and after assembling the HR-03GT. It might show significant difference. smile.gif

this cooler can run without fan at such low temperature? blink.gif
seen one of the reviews saying that it failed during fulload.
should be my mistake or it's HR03 Plus on a 8800gtx which is much hotter than 8800gt...doh.gif

anyway, adding a fan even 70mm low profile will provide much better temperature. wink.gif

I'm getting 30c idle, load 45c with aircon though. Add 5c-8c to it without aircon. And I'm using HR-03 Rev. A, with only 4 heatpipes. If TS put in a strong fan onto it, result difference should be significant.

EDIT : Typo, idle temp with aircon should be 39c. =x

Hmmmm, maybe I spoke too soon.

46C with aircond on and casing fans at high. Stock temps at 56-58C 60% fan.

60C playing crysis, casing fans at medium. Stock temps at 75-80C 75% fan.

Wrong.
Thermalright do use fan to get to 36°C.

Antec P182, All 120mm casing fans, 1 top just above CPU, 1 rear just next to the HR-03 and CPU. 2 fronts.

Mounted the HR-03 to the back (cooler to the top) and yes passively is no fan.

My bad on the thermalright result fan thing. Although I swore that thermalright techsupport did say it was without a fan.

my advise

put a fan on ur HR-03GT

test (monitor the temp) both in ur Antec P182 & outside casing (means no casing la)

if got big big difference on temp for both method on idle & full load

that means ur Antec got serious air flow issue

btw, the temp will be different if u test it outside the casing, what we looking for if there is a significant difference

i'm just suprise, i'm using Gigabyte 8800GT Zalman Fan version

idle 44-46c, yours should be lower or same with mine on idle (full load, certainly hr03-gt wins)

coz we all know, Thermalright cooler is the best whistling.gif
