First of all, you need to know that there are a few things that will slow down a mac.
1. The number of folders and files on your desktop. the more you have, the slower you mac will be. And it's already proven by my experience. Just make sure nothing stays on your desktop for no reasons, create a folder and drop everything inside.
2. The fonts installed, when you install one font, the system needs to load them at startup. and when you install a duplicate of it. The same happens, means the same font will be loaded twice. Try some font manager and delete duplicates, Google and you will know how to delete duplicates and deactivates them.
3. Your pref files got something wrong. Try onyx, it will fix it for you if it's fixable. (or delete pref files yourself. Since pref files will be generated by itself when the system finds out that there is no pref files when system needs it.)
4. The available space on your booting drive must be at least 33% free (or 30GB and above). This will make sure that you have the optimum speed while using it. (This differs from machines to machines)
5. Dont shut down your mac inapropriately.

All in all, you need to run Onyx, there is an option inside, called Automation. Just run that one.

Reasons behind this mess is simple. Our mac is programmed to clean itself at 3am daily. But since you might sleep earlier than that, and your mac is either closed or slept already. The maintanance cannot be carried out. Onyx will just initiate the maintanance for you, on the spot.

Your HDD space maybe limited. What is your capacity of the HDD. How much have you been using up?

if you use more than 75% of the HDD space, your performance of the HDD will drop. Therefore, its advisable to have an external drive.

Possible. In your scenario, your mac slows down only after you installed the new KVR ram? Well, in that case, you may diagnose it by taking the ram out and then reboot, and after that test your mac out till you are satisfied. Then do the same when you plucked the ram in again. (Beware to keep your ram clean from static and always becareful when you are handling such a intricately sensitive part)

After all the trials and errors. You might need to relaunch your app for a couple of times, well, i think every app has to rebuild something after you restore your mac or you run maintanance in it. Thus during the first launch, it may take a bit longer.
