Hey all,

I just acquired a 3rd-hand acoustic guitar - it's a Takamine EG-334BC and it sounds really good, but the pickups aren't working. It's a bridge pickup which goes into a pre-amp which is then sent to the guitar's output. The preamp got fried a couple of years ago, and my friend (the previous owner) tried to bypass the preamp and send the pickup's signal straight to the output. However, it is picking up a LOT of hum. The pickup doesn't have a ground wire - just one wire for the signal. Could this be a ground loop problem?

Is there anyway to rectify this, or should I just give up the idea of using the pickup as a passive?

P.S. I found that it was soldered in such a way the 2 connectors (hot & ground) weren't that visible, and they're actually there (which was why I was really confused earlier when I only saw one). I tried measuring the output impedance but it seems to exceed my multimeter's range of 2mOhms.
