This is the first series of shots taken with my newly purchased Alpha 200 smile.gif

The first difference in term of quality (compares to S3IS) is the noise. Even at ISO200, I couldn't detect any jpeg artifacts and noise at 100% view. Noise is only noticeable at ISO400, and yet there's no jpeg artifacts.
The second difference is the long exposure. Under aperture priority, it could exposed up to 30 sec. S3IS limits to 15 sec. Now I can shot night scene at F8 and 30 sec and the result is superb.
The third difference is heavier post process without artifacts. I can apply heavier curve and shadow/highlight and yet no jpeg artifacts is noticeable, if the shot is taken with ISO100. I can never do that with S3IS even at ISO80.

I'm very satisfy with the performance of my Alpha 200 so far.

kelvinyam: You can also shoot longer than 30 seconds in Manual Exposure, if you change the shutter speed to BULB (1 step beyond 30".) If you want la but then you have to hold down the shutter.

I like #2, it shows the power of Sony's Dynamic Range Optimizer. Same for #4 which I imagine is tricky lighting.

I particularly like #5 because you never ever see a dramatic sky with an entire night landscape. It almost looks like it was merged from 2 pictures.

#6 IMHO, it'll look nicer if you can recompose to make the tree goes off from your frame.

I've asked the sales person about the shutter cable release when I bought my Alpha 200 and I was told that the cable is not available yet. If you are using one, can you advise if this is true and how much does the cable cost?
The result you seeing with #2 and #4 has gone through some heavy post processing, mainly curve and mask/layer mask. Of course I believe the DRO did help a lot as it's in fact it's a something like shadow/highlight. What I like about this camera is that it allows a huge margin of these adjustment during post process and yet does not create any jpeg artifacts.

I have to agree with you on this one. I told my wife that one day I'll take a saw and saw of the tree. Haha, just kidding.
Actually I was trying to compose the tree into the frame. I could have moved to the other location like what I did for the other shot. I guess this didn't turn out good enough. I could imagine a composition without the tree where it could look much better.

Hey, no problem at all. This is a public forum and I do not own any of these. smile.gif
I have a few shots like yours where I zoomed into the KLCC. But I deleted those because I don't quite like it as I like more sky with dramatic lighting.

The remote commander is the RM-S1AM. It has been around since the Sony A100. I see it quite often in Sony shops and all over Midvalley, should be around Sg. Wang as well.

I'm not sure how extreme the A200's DRO is but the A700 with manual DRO power can be set to have such a strong effect.

A200 DRO level is similar to A100 DRO level, just named slightly different.
