the guitar (grx40) is a good beginners guitar. i've owned it before and it plays quite well if properly setup. i've used it for 5 years before upgrading.
i don't know about the amp though. 10watts is good for room practice i suppose.

sx guitars and microcube are very well recommended here for beginners... i dont know how to get it in ipoh but it just 2hrs bus ride to kl... come by bus, look for sx guitars and stuff in woh fatt (which is nearby the puduraya), then walk to ck music... look for microcube u wanted, test it... then if u still have the stamina u can walk a lil bit more to bentley, look for stuff u like.. then go back to ipoh... no pain no gain man..

Yes.... Any guitar can play distortion. But the single coils arn't really suited for metal, as they don't have the output you'd like for metal songs......... Especially stuff like children of bodom, Metallica, Trivium or stuff like that.........

Ebony is at the traffic light near Jalan Yang Kalsom (near to MGS) but i tell ya, they are freaking unfriendly. There was once my friend asked to see the guitar, but the owner asked " Are you going to buy?" Wtf? Kinta city is much better in term of serving.

+1 to ipohboy. hate the ebony boss
to TS, i think H-S-S or H-S-H is fine for you if you're not sure what songs you gonna play most. Or in other words if you want a versatile guitar. at least the above stated combination got both single coil and humbucker

i too recomend rock fellas get humbuckers single coils dont sound right in metal to me....
however, if theres a HSS u can try tat or like the pacifica model i once work wit.. under the pickguard theres tis whole empty rectangular cavity so jus need to make a hole for the humbucker to fit in and convert a HSS to HSH

If you're planning to get Humbuckers, just go for a Yamaha Pacifica instead. They sound better then the SX, costs only a little bit more, and has alot of room for mods. Alot of our forumers are also using the Pacifica........ Led Zep used one for the longest period of time before upgrading to a Fender.

We're looking at the RM600 range...... but it's well worth it and you can probably bargain for less or throw in stuff like a gig bag, picks, cables and a tuner.

revving towards 10,000 rpm

humbucker in the neck position will sound 'creamy' for solo compare to single coil
