Hi all,
I'm thinking of buying a Dell laptop. They have the option of getting MS Office 2007 Home & Student version software for RM400+ which will be pre-installed in the laptop. In case the laptop got to be re-formatted at one point of its life, will I get to re-install the software? How about the operating system (vista)?
Do you guys think it's worth the money? Or should I just get the MS Office separately?

To all who generous and kind enuff to help clueless person like me, pls help advise on what i should buy.
1. Brand. - I'm not sure but interest with Dell, HP, Toshiba and Fujitsu. Pls recommend if u know maybe there is better than what i list.
2. Budget. - RM3500 - RM4000 (Its possible that i can rack up a little bit above RM4000, but RM4500 maybe already too much
3. Specs. - Processor - won't be a problem... but i think at least 2Ghz - RAM - big concerned... at least 2gb but willing to go for more if in price range - HD - since nowdays 80gb is good enuff i think i settle for it... but having more will be nicer - Graphic - Since i got X360 i don't really bother to play games on pc anymore, but one day i might thinking of playing crysis or gears of war pc. Thats why i confuse either Intel Xtreme X3100 already good enuff or go for Nvdia. I'm not what going to effect if im using better graphic card but if using better card will involve in quality of watching video or video editing or 3d modelling i will go for better card. - Other - i want wifi, card reader, dvd-rw and i don't remember what else until i using it... but for now i always use what i mention for now.
4. Size. - I love big screen, i won't expect 32" in the future as 22" already big enough for me and the biggest i knew for laptop is 17". The problem is, i got 2 notebook in my mind which one of them got 15" with nice spec and 17" because of it's size...
5. What for? - Graphic - im using adobe photoshop cs3 and sometimes i felt 1.5GB ram in my pc didn't do good job enuff. So i craving for better speed - Video - Lately i like to take video shot and editting it and for that i need good speed and HD capacity to do that. Last time the video i took cost me 1.87GB space and i dun want to delete it. - Programming - Java using NetBean... i tried with 1GB RAM speed and it not enuff, later on i got to use Visual Studio Pro and SQL so another one i go for speed reason. - Gaming(optional) - like i said above, but if anyone can assure and convince me that Intel Xtreme X3100 can handle it i won't go far with Nvdia.
I just got internship and one of the requirement for my internship is bringing own notebook. Biggest hurdle coz since i got desktop i never tot of buying a notebook up until now. They lend me a pc to work with but the problem is uncustomizeable as whenever i need to install something or change setting, need to go thru admin account...
So from the day i start my internship, i start looking and surveying few model and brand of notebooks and the prices. So far i'm interest in Dell and HP coz they display price on their site but for toshiba and fujitsu... im clueless.
So far what in my mind is Dell Inspiron 1720 and XPS M1530... im not sure about other brand but whatever is it pls help me and advise which i should buy.
After work hour i will go to Dell outlet and will try to dig in more info about their notebook. I will give a tot and will decide tomorrow and there is high probably i will buy after going home from work tomorrow.
Thanks.

Well, if you need to bring laptops to work, then avoid 17", since, well, you've gotta bring them everyday I suppose. The weight of 17" notebook really are a thing to be considered. If you want bigger screen, why not consider an external monitor instead?
Anyways, I have no idea what are the graphic requirements of photoshop cs3 etc, but as for the games, the Nvidia one in the m1530 should be able to handle it. Problem is, you said you "might" play, do you want to get the GC because you can play the games in the future or do you want to play them now?

Hmm, well, the only thing I can say is, Do say yes to a MacbookPro, not a macbook. Macbooks have x3100 IGPs as a standard, and it's not that you can upgrade them anyways. Seeing how much your budget is, I doubt you afford a macbook pro. No offence but Macbook Pros cost way more than 4k. Well, let say you've decided to splash more cash for a MBP, another thing to consider is whether all your programs work in MacOS. I know you can bootcamp it, but if that's the case, ask yourself, did you bought a mac to run windows on it?

I already checked the spec for macbook, i don't think i get one unless i got 7 grand to spend fot macbookpro. small screen, 1gb ram, new user, etc all these reason. I think i'm going to settle with M1530, the best that what can offer in one package...thx for the advises

QUOTE(malayneum @ May 22 2008, 12:55 PM) id like to know x1300 is a good graphic processor or not? what kind of games can it play? Low-mid games. You can't expect to play good games such as Crysis, Bioshock or COD4. However you can play Dota and older games.

if u are not going to use for heavy multitasking, T7250 is enoguh dy, for me i prefer the T7700
as other forumer here mentioned, if u using the laptop frequant, 14 is the best, coz for 17", its kinda heavy,!
