xps studio will be out by december, it should feature a 16 inch hd lcd. yeah btw, the 8600gt is a faster card than the ati3650. as usual, u can customise up to rm5k and then use the coupon to max out the benefits. its rare to see the rm500 coupon offer. last time i saw it was in may and it has been this long for the next one

if u dont mind with an amd processor, u can go with the cq40-125ax as described above, else u can just get dell 1420 for intel processors. what is the main criteria with the laptop anyways

Well ill take your word for it. If im not wrong the last xps also came out around december...I guess my next concern is if studio xps will be too expensive ie. starting at 6k or something. Yeah its rare to get rm500 offer but as usual dell usually got offers here n there all year around although not as worth it as this one. But i rather spend a bit more if it means getting a much more satisfying laptop. I guess ill wait until jan to make a proper decision.
*
lol im not a dell representative, dont take my words for it. sometimes it takes a bit longer to have the product launched in malaysia. the dell mini 9 was launched in the states for months and it was never brought in to malaysia, except by parallel importers. its up to u really, since its ur money

actually the xps 1530 offers bigger screen size and better graphics card, such as the 256mb 8600gt ddr3. however the person above asked for 14 inch and below, hence the choice of xps 1330

*
really depends on what u are aftering. dell has better graphics card where as compaq has centrino 2. dell has better support and service (next business day) whereas anything happens to ur compaq, u urself drive it back to the factory and do claims

just wanna ask...are there any model/brand of lappie with nvidia go 8600(or the same grade of GPU) with screen 14.1" or smaller other than BenQ ?
*
well only the xps1530 comes with the 8600gt. benq, i dont suggest. my cousin bought one, benq s73g. broke down after 1 year, right after warranty. i dont know why really, but he just bought a used toshiba temporarily for now

ive surveyed toshiba and hp. i strongly advice staying away from acer really. its just slightly worse than benq

one more question , how is the quality of HP laptop and HP services like ?

its not too bad. but if u want hassle free services, u can consider dell inspiron 1420, its selling now for rm1899 on the dell site. it comes with windows vista basic too

xps1530 with 8600gt seems like very good lappie...but i want mobility(smaller lappie) plus really good GPU.... may i know how long your dell inspiron gaming rig battery can last ?

btw, nothing wrong with benq....i own banq R55...... i just wanna try other brand & more mobility plus good graphics.......
*
its not really a good comparison, lol, u should try asking the xps 1530 owners and ask them their average battery

when first bought new, i managed to get about 3 hours of battery life off my inspiron

yes it has standard of one year. if u want zero headache, go dell. they will keep u covered for 1 year.

as for compaq, thats for the adventurous. i havent used compaq before, but my cousin did. so far his v2000 and v3000 has failed and died after 1 year. my 2 year old inpsiron 6400 still running strong, though i passed down to my office

Are you working for Dell? You seem very keen in promoting it.
Well I used Dell Inspiron 6000, 1420, Latitude D610, D620, 630, 430 and now E6400.
The current Inspiron looks and feel super cheap and flimsy.
Used V3000 and few cCmpaq and HP. They never failed me, even Acer.

Well my Latitude D630 failed me 6 time after 1 year.
D610 failed 2 times. My D430 failed 2 times after 3 months.
The engineer that came to repair my perfect condition D430 scratch the cover so badly while changing the LCD.

For me their only good at giving onsite services.
Other than that, I will change the Brand anytime.
Even rather go for cheaper Lenovo Think Pad SL rather than Latitude.

Hope my E6400 wont disappointment. The only reason I use Dell is because of the
company policy and agreement contract with them.
Otherwise, call me Anti-Dell in notebook. The server is great, love em'.
*
lol no i dont man, theres also another guy's name, steventan85. he's the one more keener.
truth be told, i second lenovo thinkpad and toshiba series. however, getting most bang per buck, then dell it is. however, if u have limitless budget, aim for the hp pavilion series for entertainment. most rugged and reliable business laptops? lenovo thinkpads.

i still have a prehistoric pentium 200mmx latitude still running. only thing that died was the battery and a few dead pixels after 12 years of usage.

I do agree with you. I am a IBM notebook user before until T61. I stop using them because I feel there is no point in having 2-3 notebooks at home. The reason I use Dell latitude because my company provide them to me.
The D620 and 630 battery died just after 1 year. Keyboard gets the oily effect too fast. Latitude build is still not comparable to IBM and HP NX.

I do agree on the abuse factor but I do used Acer, Compaq and HP and they never failed on me as Dell have.
I really do take good care my notebook and all of them looks like new.

Well, E6400 is indeed a nice notebook. Far better than the thinkpad by design. Quality is comparable.
Price is quite ok for E6400, but damn pricey for E4300 and especially E4200.  If you want battery life just opt for 45nm processor, Intel 4500 GPU and 9 cell.
*
have u got a toshiba portege btw? a lenovo joybook from my dad's company just failed. acers, i really dont like them, AT ALL. its rated by most users on here as crappy. compaq and hp, i dont know. but dad has a compaq before it was bought over by hp. the keyboard failed after 1 year of purchase, right after warranty expired

dell has been crap before. it had a better build than acer back then. it was because michael dell has retired and was passed down to another ceo. it was chaos until they sort them out.

the el cheapo lenovo 3000 joybook has been replaced by an antique ibm thinkpad r51e. its still running strong. it is a surprise, knowing that both pc's came from pre-lenovo and post-lenovo

The R51e is without touchpad and slight smaller and less spec.
Same good quality. Good notebook.

Wanted to try Lenovo before but after looking and touching it.
Dont think I like the build and design. Is not a Thinkpad nor close to it.
*
we have another thinkpad, z60m, which comes with a widescreen, centrino shell. its still a very good laptop.
i know you may think i am biased to dell, but some certain models only

like the vostro 1310 is a total crap. i heard the speakers suck too. i vouch for latitude and my d630 is still strong. we had bought a dell before and was turned off when one laptop came with few bad pixels. thank god they allow us to swap. i had my fair share with dell. i wanted to get an asus before since it came with the ati radeon x1600 graphics. unfortunately, i was forced to go dell, since asus was uncharted waters.

anyways, best is to go on this site. www.notebookreview.com . these volunteers buy laptops, test emm and keep them like their pets. its good to know if a model is solid or not

I went to the website as a reference. After reading the review only then I decided to buy the E6400.
One of the best notebook review website for me. Asus Im quite afraid due to the warranty claim issue.
I don't have time to go and look for the warranty later on. Had that with Benq. My first and last Benq.
Now I'm sticking to major brand. I am thinking to buy 1 Thinkpad for myself. Sold off my viao.
Looking for slim model with DVDRW. I need my movies when I travel. Optical drive is very important for me.
Any suggestion?
*
if thats ur own money not ur company's, go get the thinkpad t61. it comes with geforce quadro graphics card too! it is the best notebook review sites around, since its less biased and user opinionated.

I dont think you could get a lattitude for that budget.
Your freind is wrong, most issue is model based unless the manucfacturer is crappy.
I used acer and the newer model are good and cheap.
For me Studio 15 should be your best bet. Be carefull as the build quality is not on par with HP and IBM.
Stay away from Vostro. Heard abundant issue come from that range, but I never used that before.
You can browse the Vostro user forum and check it out yourself.

Even my new E6400 has so much issue from notebook review forum.
Now my lcd died and using my el chepo yet good and perfect acer 4530.

Dell is crappy but you can call them ten times to fix the issue and only stop until your really satisfied.
I will be whacking the dell tech support tomorrow.

great model, how much is it? its not going to be cheap.
i feel thel xps m1730 is highly spec than this. did tried to customize the best specs and its 15.5k.

Hi, I am hunting for a notebook but I am new in choosing a right one.
My rough requirement is :-

1. Light, prefer something around 1.5kg to 2.0 kg (notebook alone, without power cord)
2. Can process some graphic task (video, movie), game is not necessary.
3. Sturdy and tough, I travel with it very often, so hoping it can stand some shock and some public bus's gang bang  tongue.gif
4. Stylish is not vital to me, in fact, the simpler it is, the better.
5. battery life have to be decent, like 4 - 5 hours with a bit of power saving function is ok for me
6. Warranty of 3 years ? <----friend say very less notebook give 3 years warranty  cry.gif

Budget can go up to 4k but if there is installment available ( notworthy.gif ) , can go up higher.

Plz fellow lowyat's pro, help me choose on which notebook is suitable, thx  biggrin.gif

dell xps 1330, i think that should meet your standards, can downpyament as well sadly i dont know much about the battery life, but the dell xps magnesium alloy case should stand up to it
