sony vaio CR better or Dell studio 15???  rclxub.gif

celest celest.... what is it that u want?
obviously dell studio 15 specs totally beat vaio cr
sony is style. thats why they say sonystyle.
if u ask build quality then maybe sony is better. but dont worry so much bout dell either coz dell has good service. upgrade dell warranty and u will not have regrets.

I guess u dont want asus based on the 1st priority criteria. (well all laptops has its own problems lar)
since u did not rule out acer then i should say acer 4920G (RM2999)
hey besides that, why dont u get a cheaper laptop. since ur major usage = minor specs. like dell 1420 (RM2299)?
dont even have to upgrade the warranty. when spoil just get new one lor.
or try acer 4715 and 4520 (RM1799 and RM 1899)
one of my best friend has been using the lower end acer laptop for about one year and so far so good. (he is using 4720 which is similar to 4715) better to get 4720 than 4520

Is it good compared to Asus with this price??
Or compared to dell studio 15(u recomanded) which 1 is suitable for me?

MY CHOICE IS GETTING NARROW... YEAH.. THX BMD ALL ALL OF U  notworthy.gif
*
Asus got EEEPC and i think it is really RM660. But now eeepc got many models ranging from below 1k to below 2k
to those who want to find out bout eeepc just go to the shop. try it out. if like then buy lor. so cheap anyway.

dell inspiron 1730 is huge and heavy. it is using ge force 8400 which has little heat issue.
certainly u should go for dell studio. using ati gc. and also new model mah... bosan see inspiron. get dell studio/ really is better to get studio. specs also better.

bmd.. i am waiting for ur comment since 12.30pm ="(
rm3726 is a lil overbudget le. Perhaps i can get cheaper in pc fair tha coming soon.
*
in uni lar. the reply that i send this afternoon was in the uni library. (sick with maths B and mechatronic design)

ermm... what is ur budget again? no u will not get much cheaper in pc fair for dell. maybe most also 100 like that. but if u notice dell has instant rebate. means if inpsiron if u customise until rm4000 u will get rm 300 rebate. means it will cost RM 3700. but if studio u have to customise to rm5000 to get rm 500 rebate. in pc fair will get many upgrades. not discount
can u list down the choices that u have made? i quite blur now. coz dont really know ur budget.

I'm planning to buy either Dell Inspiron 1420 or 1525 but it's graphic card is Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 Specifications. Is it suitable for gaming or does it heats up after long hours?? I heard that Nvidia 8400 & 8600 heats up after long hours.

reply here or pm me or

Thanks!! biggrin.gif
*
inegrated graphics x3100 is the lowest of all graphics. not for gaming at all.
8400 and 8600 got heat problems (but the thread talking bout this not really active so maybe not serious) anyway it can be overcome easily by having good cooling system,
dell inspiron if u customise can get 8400 and 8600.

just in case u got confuse.. 8600 gt is a very powerful gc. which i dont think u need. those are for really gamers.
and the forumer is hoping that dell will have 8600GT during pc fair
8600gt can be on any laptop not only dell

i think he was refering to 8600GS and not GT (big diff there)
Dell 1420 can customise GC to get 8600GS. (but i cannot find it already.. last time got)

haha
SURE~~~~~~~~boleh kah~~~~~

thanks bmd for reply above.

that really is up to u.. if u think u want to increase in budget then sure core2duo is much better. but then u have to "CONSIDER" that "U MIGHT" want to install "WINDOWS XP" which cost about rm250. coz if take vista U MUST upgrade to 2GB ram but i am quite optimistic that if u find this laptop in pc fair they will give u free upgrade to 2gb.
ANYWAY! YA SURE BOLEH!!

thanks bmd. maybe you have got a point in buying low end NB, if solely considering the durability + low end specs, which one would you recommend?

I got an eye for Dell Vostro series, seemed solid enough from first view, dono if it is really that good. Beside that, I also considering the Fujitsu (Lifebook series .. less than 2k for 2XXX processor) and Toshiba low end series. Acer seemed fragile ... =(
*
Vostro rocks!!!!!!!! and toshiba is getting very very popular for even the low end ones.
vostro design is so dull but specs still rocks!!! quality also good.....
fujitsu i always think that it is expensive.. maybe u can post more details bout the specs... i really dunno much bout fujitsu....
well back to ur 1st question.. there is dell inspiron 1420 which is rm 2299. dual core so it is ok. but i totally agree u take vostro.
why everybody so bad about acer... sob sob... acer was one of the 1st brand in malaysia since 1995.... but so may ppl keep say acer bad until i also quite afraid to recommend....
but i have at least 3 friends who use acer and have no problem with it.. already one year all of them using (we enter uni same year)... anyway there is always warranty right??? warranty covers manufacturing defects mah...

so, vostro it is ... hmmm, wonder if they would allow me to add that s-video port on top of the existing s-vga port. thinking of porting my NB to TV to watch the RMVBs... hehehe  Any news on promotion for this series from Dell?

I just checked with the fujitsu website, the model they offer is having compatibility issue with the X-Fi Notebook card I plan to plug into my NB. So, off it goes from my list.

Why I feel bad about Acer ... cause my bro is owning one ... which got out from kilang few months ago for spoilt hinges. kakaka.
*
so just blame acer???manatahu ur bro use the notebook to throwat dogs? hehe
so was it covered by warranty? how long to repair? how much cost?

Since Intel® Graphic Media Accelerator X3100 ain't good enough for normal gaming,
then what graphic card is the best for normal gaming when buying Dell inspiron laptop?
So is 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS good or does it heat up fast?

Thanks...  biggrin.gif
*
well nvidia gforce 8400gs is also a lower class but is very good enuf for normal gaming...just not hardcore gaming.. it heats up but just get a cooling solution. should not be too much problem...
if play games like dota then 8400 is very good already...

got digital electronics lab.. screwed the whole lab... had to stay overtime
amd puma is the newest platform for amd processor.
its just like centrino 2 is the newest platform for intel processor.
basically platform means can support newer processor that are more efficient and energy saving and better performance and much more...
AMD and INTEL ARE 2 DIFF manufacturers.. and have to compare the processor model side by side to see which is better.. there are so many models for either amd or intel...
if u not scared acer then acer lor... so easy....
where did u se the specs? i cannot find on dell website.. i think it was last time... if u can get the laptop sure good but i think not cheap
no it is not logic to customise dell rm2000+ to get specs up to studio 15.. either it is not available or it will be crazy expensive
today had super tough digital electronics lab

Dell Studio 17" but with 8600GT.

or

17" notebook for game. price range 4500-5500k ringgit

If possible, not an acer.

Support 1680x1050 Resolution.

i'll be using this notebook for gaming.
*
dell studio for sure.... got rebate 500 if u customise above rm5000.. i think the gc is not 8600Gt right? but the ati hd is comparable to 8600gt... anyway since 8600 got a bit heat issue then better just get ati...
if not try asus G1S or G1SN.. thumbs up for this 2 models

not supposed to be afraid of xps lar... its nvidia's fault... its the 8400 and 8600 giving out more heat than usual.... but xps is very good service.. if spoil bcoz of nvidia then get dell to repair .. very fast they will replace for u
anyway just get a good cooling fan.. like cooler master...
then no problem... so many ppl have xps.... so dont worry
i still stand for xps.

yup.. try see pc fair..
but i think it is not as worth for the specs that u getting. previously vostro gave great specs for great price.. but now seems inpiron is giving better deals... maybe u should consider inspiron if like that...
or just get vostro as it is with no upgrades.. or just upgrade to 2gb..
basically what i am saying is that for the price u pay it is quite a bad deal.

just bcoz u got budget does not mean u must upgrade like that!?!?
u should only upgrade the LCD.
the ram is totally not worth. why dont u just leave it at 2GB(which is really enough.. ram does not make ur laptop faster... if the additional 2gb u put in is not utilise u r wasting money... even if u use heavy programs it does not mean ram is suppose to handle it... the processor is suppose to handle it....
like this... why dont u just stick with 2gb and if u really ever find that ur available memory is less than 200MB then u go buy from shop another 2GB which is much much cheaper than upgrade from dell... and it wont void ur warranty if u upgrade the ram urself.

ok bro, got ur point. i was thinking of upgrading the ram initially because there are only 2 slot available and with the 2gb, it means there will be no more extra slot for upgrade. Thus, the decision to upgrade it to 4 gb. But maybe you are right, I don't really need that much ram after all with such minial application need.

btw, if the centrino 2 and puma comes out by mid august, the core 2 duo will surely be pushed down rite? do u think i should wait for a couple more weeks before putting it off with the 2499 inspiron?  i ain't tat rush anyway. i know the race for price in the computing world is neverending. but given that the 2 new processors will surely make a hard push to the price, it might be worth the short wait. wat do you think?
*
well i totally agree that u wait. but then u wont see price going down much for old platform. they will just change all their platform to centrino 2 which u should get as centrino2 really saves battery life. no matter what waiting always helps. and dell promo this time during pc fair not really much better compare to normal days. however the question is when will the manufacturers fully change to centrino2. maybe mid august is only few models

Nvidia 8600M GT 512 GDDR2 support turbo cache

i am not sure whether aliendarknez reffering to the acer4530 that cost RM1999. if it is then ya should have in pc fair. the specs to price is very good. the specs is amd athlonx2 and nvidia 9100gm.

TurboCache
How Does it Work?
The revolutionary TurboCache technology utilizes the additional bandwidth of the PCI Express graphics bus to reach higher levels of graphics performance than traditional video memory solutions, delivering the performance and features you expect from NVIDIA graphics hardware. By allowing the graphics processing unit (GPU) to share the capacity and bandwidth of dedicated video memory and dynamically available system memory, TurboCache turbocharges performance and provides larger total graphics memory.

Key features of the TurboCache architecture:
Patented hardware and software technologies that render directly to system memory
A TurboCache Manager (TCM), which dynamically allocates memory for maximum system performance
Intelligent software algorithms that maximize application performance
Bidirectional PCI Express® bandwidth, in conjunction with TurboCache architecture, which improves graphics price/performance
Through its unique ability to render directly to system memory, TurboCache fundamentally redefines the price/performance of desktop and notebook PC graphics solutions. With the innovative TurboCache technology from NVIDIA, users looking for an affordable desktop or thin and light notebook solution can now experience the latest graphics and video features of the GeForce 6 and 7 Series GPUs, without compromise.

Source http://www.nvidia.com/page/turbocache.html

NVIDIA's TurboCache technology is a method of allowing graphics cards more available framebuffer memory by using both on-board video memory and main system memory. Main memory is accessed using the high-bandwidth PCI-Express bus

Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
250GB HDD
2GB Ram
Other standard specs.

for RM 2999

Worth ma?
Considering it as Dell put it under "Incredible Value!" deal.

i dont think it really is worth lar... i dunno why but vostro offer just doesn't impress me as much as last time...
although the processor and ram fully meet ur requirements but then still the price is not attractive enough....
maybe in the end u have to consider other than vostro
i checked dell for ur model it said
Price incl. RM750 Instant Cash Redemption and FREE Delivery
meaning it was actually RM3750??????????????? must think ppl are idiot.. i dont get it... the specs are just too basic.. maybe they have some special feature which i am not aware of..
at the moment i really suggest u see other models... check sony vaio...

EDIT: I think better u just wait since it is not urgent.. wait till more centrino2 lappies come out.. at the moment prices dont seem too good...

i would go for dell... coz it has already 3gb ram and the price is only RM2499 as oppose to online where it is 1GB ram and RM2599.
the dell processor is T5850 or T5750???
hmm.. the processor is only 667FSB compare to T7XXX which is 800FSB.
and centrino 2 lappies have 1066FSB
but from ur requirementsT5750 is more than enough...

yup no problem the specs.. price is reasoanable.. with the 3gb ram which u love so much.... ya...T5850 is slightly faster.. i think it is 2.16GHz...
i dont think u need to wait anymore also coz u dont need centrino 2. and prices will most probably not drop anymore... coz they will only change to new platform...

Added on August 9, 2008, 11:36 amWAIT!!! FREE DOS???? hmm.. no wonder price cheap lar....
u sure u r ok with free dos???
have to find ur own driver which is not an easy task if u never did it before.. i saw some drivers in dell inspiron 1420 thread but never tried it out...
and i personally go for ori OS so it will cost u another RM 200+ for a windows vista basic..

reformatting is ok if u have driver.... it really is a nightmare if u dont have drivers.... can go crazy....
if u r ok with the free dos and u can find drivers easily then sure... go ahead...
lenovo specs nice but i am not sure bout service.. safer to stick to dell...
