Hey guys!

I dont know if this has been discussed...

I have the crumpler 7 million dolar home messenger bag.

but i am currently interested in getting a camera bagpack by kata... specifically the bumblebee UL-222

but its dimensions are little more than the intended size for carryons for travelling..

do you guys have any experience with carryons which are a little bigger? will I cause alot of problem when checking in or should i just look for a smaller bag?

I would love to purchase 1, but i have 1 issue, can i use this bag as a carry on luggage?
The dimensions provided by airline carriers are

"The maximum dimensions cannot exceed any of the following measurements: 22" long x 14" wide x 9" tall or 114cm (56 x 35 x 23 cm)."

External Max Size
CM INCH
L 38.5 15.2
W 30 11.8
H 52 20.5

provided by Kata's website

Will it fit the top compartment of the airlines?

please do share your experience! and hopefully ask thread starter to put on 1st post!

thanks guys!

Im gonna share with u my experience,

I have the crumpler 6 million dolar home messenger bag.

and i want to go travel bringing my camera and some clothes, i finally decided to buy a Cumpler Customary Barge.

I took out the padding from the Customary's camera compartment and put in my 6million. and it fits perfectly. I zipped the bag and voila.

But Customary barge is damm huge tho, i doubt it can fit into the compartment. BUt by taking out the 6 million and i think the Customary can fit into the Airplane top compartment, but im not sure if they allow one hand carry Customary barge.

Its not safe to let my Customary check in luggage right?

Thank you so much hidden830726! I just looked at the dimensions of the customary bag and i find it about the same just that the kata is thicker by 5cm which is ALOT i guess and plus minus a few cm for the length and height..

I tried the Kata in the evening and it was really comfortable i fell in love with it, just that now im deciding if this bag could be my carry on. why i choosed this bag is becuase it could fit a 70-200mm f2.8 lens mounted on the camera

I love the 7mdh but my shoulders were crying out loud with only 2 lenses 50mm 1.8g and 18-105mm nikkor lens and sb700 flash with a d7000 body, headphones from audiotechnica and 1 500ml water bottle and a few documents in it.. imagine adding another 70-200mm lens that would be another 1.5kg i think i decided to go for a backpack for the comfort and some hiking activities too..

QUOTE(LinTao @ Aug 1 2011, 09:17 PM)
it depends on your gear. since you have 7MDH already, its already quite big and can fit i think quite a few lenses. why not just use it? messenger bags are more convenient. if you get backpacks kinda mafan if you wanna just go for travelling. need to consider that if you wanna change lens and etc etc.

thanks LinTao! yea its super convinient thats why i fell in love with it but my shoulders hurt so bad after a week in hong kong and china untill i asked my girlfriend to carry the bag for me after disney land on our way back to the hotel lol!

anyone has any backpack which dimensions are bigger and have no problem fitting in the aircraft compartment at the top?

Hey Calvin,

Im just not sure what is your priority, the kata is really a very good camera + laptop back pack, but im not sure if you could put in any stuff (E.g. clothes etc) for traveling, If you intention is to have this backpack mainly for camera, then to have another luggage bag then no problem at all imo, it actually look smaller then the customary.

For me, on a short trip, Customary fit better for me, because i can put some stuff on the top compartment, while have the 6 million in the camera compartment when depart, then when return, if i need more space, i could empty the camera compartment, take out the 6 million and use the camera compartment for extra space to put additional stuff (shopping trophy), then 6 million on the shoulder.

Overall, I think Kata Bumb will serve you well, if that is what u need

Im so sorry hidden803726!

I didn't really make my self clear about it... my main piriority is comfort actually, after knowning messenger bags could be convinient but i would have to let go comfort in order for convininience.. if i wanted convinience maybe i should opt for point and shoot cameras =p lol!

I wont be putting any clothes in the kata, just a carryon for me but at the same time i would just bring on my checking luggage for long haul flights and a shoulder bag maybe for penang/melacca etc.. the kata is solely for camera equipments and water, food etc etc while travelling

Thank you for your swift reply hidden!

Here are my bags wink.gif

Im letting go my 7 Million Dollar Home because I bought the Kata Torso bag(right above the kata bag) which acts as a messenger bags and it has the EPH system which connects the torso to my backpack for easier access to my cameras! wink.gif

Would anyone want to see the inside of the bags?

dear ixora,

i think you need to go back to SG unfortunately,

I recently went back to crumpler to claim a warranty, i bought my crumpler from pavillion and went to the crumpler at klcc since i was around there.. unfortunately they didnt accept my bag and asked me to head to pav where i originally bought the bag from.. its going to take me 3 months for the bag which is pretty sad sad.gif

What happened with the bag?
*
Nothing much, just some minor stiching issues and since i have another messenger bag i was alright with the long haul warranty.. most likely to sell the crumpler bag later on lol

If it was within 2 weeks i think they would have gave me a 1-1 return but they told me they will be sending it to australia and its going to take 3 months -.-"" so long...
