I have enuff specs to make up an old pc, and i m putting that old pc into a drawer and i able to do all the cabling, it dont have any display, just act like a simple file server and IIS server. It consists of a mainboard, an amd processor(sure got fan and heat sink), 1 hdd, and 1 old 20 pin psu, NO display card attached. The pc was intended to run 24/7.

What problem im facing is, the computer is generating too much heat because of the hot air unable to get out, and i go into bios and see the temperature, 50-52 degree for cpu and 60-62 for mainboard. I am not sure it will burn up my house 1 day or not =P

So I am asking if any of you have any good suggestion beside making holes anywhere in my drawer ? Its ok to reduce the speed of the CPU, since its amd 64bit 1800+, still too powerful for that 2 features. Or are they anyway to reduce the heat from the PSU as well ?

Try to buy new case with excellent air flow and fans laio. Perhaps your current casing does not have any good air flowing and the heat can't get out of there.

Pictures??

Either way, you need to have at least some sort of ventilation... at minimum, using the PSU's fan to move some air out.

Still.. pictures will be great

agree....some form of ventilation is a MUST. even just the PSU like sniper mentioned is a form of ventilation.

if u already have that and its not enough... then u have no choice but to add more. u definitely need moving air.

Is putting some extra an option. If can,buy those 80MM big fan and put it on high speed setting blowing over your mobo.

You can actually downclock your processor with a program but I forgot what it is.If you don't want to use a program, just do it from your bios

adding fan to it wont reduce the heat unless theres some hole in the drawer for ventilation...

a simple picture will help a lot in explaning.... if ur proc is running at low utilization, then a psu fan as ventilation should be sufficient

well cant do any modification to the front of your TV rack.
may be broaden the cable hole at the back of the rack.
adding fans to your tv rack will make it look fugly.

no ventilation, means the heat is no where to go except circling inside the drawer.. lets hope ur drawer can absorb heat..

if only u can channel the heat using self-mod heat pipe.. tongue.gif
