Hi all,

I'm new to Mac...
Would like to ask sifu here... if I get a iMac with 1GB RAM... If I want to upgrade the RAM to 4GB, can I get the RAM from normal PC store?
Are those special RAM different from the PC ones???
Coz one of the Mac store guy told me if the RAM not get from them, it may have problem and with possibility of MELTING~! blink.gif
Is it true???

Thanks in advance~!

I PM lilredridinghood the store name.
I'm not sure izit appropriate to mention name openly. blush.gif

Well, I asked them if upgrade from 1GB to 4GB how much. The guy told me is RM699 per 2GB, so I need to pay RM1398 for 4GB.
So I asked what happen to the 1GB which come with the original price package??? He said that 1GB will not be included if I take 4GB with RM1398, and I will not get any rebate from the original 1GB... is that true also???

This is why I think of get 1GB first... then go somewhere to get 4GB RAM later if I need to.

Any advice??? blush.gif

Thanks ed0gawa,

How about warranty wise? If i install the RAM by myself, will this void warranty?

I work at Machines as well, doing sales.
But I am the one who actively checks the feedback as well as the info@machines.com.my.

And by the way, there is a rebate on RAM.

Also, to add to my previous post.
We DO recommend you get KTA RAM as KVR RAM MAY not work.
So if you decide to risk it and get KVR and it works, then awesome for you.
But I tried before and it doesn't work with mine.

It's good that he was polite, but as a premium reseller, we should not be giving out wrong information. sleep.gif
I really apologize for that, and hope that this does help answer your question a bit.

Hi Miss Moo,

Thanks for the advice~! smile.gif

I think I got all the answers I need.
I will get iMac with 1GB first. Then will upgrade only if I need the extra performance... and will look out for KTA RAM.

Thanks again for everyone's inputs~! nod.gif
