Haha I was in the same hall as you just now.

Maybe they were calibrating the Atmos during those 30 minutes and when that guy with the walkie talkie informed the projector people they decided to go ahead without the Atmos  doh.gif The surround sound effects that we got was pretty normal, IMAX TGV 1U is miles better.

Agree with you, they have plenty of time to do it, the show starts at 12.00, why must do it at last minute.

Any one else catching the movie at GSC Atmos later? Make sure to give us your feedback.

Did they show the Atmos demo clips before the movie start ?

Owh crap. Now I have pressure on me. laugh.gif

I think the 6.45PM slot is about to begin. Then again, the 2D version is underway now. So lets hope there's someone here who can help us with an earlier Atmos review.

There is however, 1 thing that bothers me. It's a fantasy movie. what if certain sounds, are just meant to be downplayed? How would I know on that one?

But I'll let you know if I end up looking behind me if there's coming from there. That's what I'm looking forward to.

Nope they didn't, that's another reason why I think we were just hearing regular surround sound instead of Atmos.

During the 30 minutes before the movie started they were showing the opening of the movie, again and again, sometimes it's 3d, sometimes it's 2d, sometimes it's just a distorted version. Then they showed some movie trailer with Ben Stiller, but even that also got problem and they didn't finished showing the trailer laugh.gif

But I did saw those overheads speakers on the roof just like in that Atmos video. But not sure if it was used or not during my screening.

haha no need pressure la, just tell us your experience and if you have to wait for 30 minutes like us just now laugh.gif

and maybe you could look out for any Atmos intro or demo before the movie starts. Like last time got that THX intro.

They showed that trailer like 3 times just now, but each time it got distorted and didn't finish. doh.gif
The final time they showed it there's a scene where was Ben Stiller at a door just "stuck" at the screen and it stayed there even when the Hobbit already started, before they just shutdown the projector.

definitely my worst experience ever at a cinema.

damn... I already booked the ticket for tonight 9.45, hope they will fix the problem by then doh.gif

base on my last experience with Dolby Atmos, I watch Oblivion in Vietnam, the different with other normal theatre is not that obvious, but if u listen carefully, the surround effect much more seamless & sound positioning is more accurate & natural, so if anyone who expect extra Boom Boom Bang on LFE might find it disappointed, but for my personal preference I prefer Atmos then IMAX sound system, for me IMAX sound too loud & too harsh.

anyway, will see how it ends tonight tongue.gif

I saw it in IMAX 3D but I don't quite know how to differentiate if it's HFR or not. The visuals are sharp but depth of the 3D was only as good as the films that are converted to 3D in post production.

It is very possible that GSC 1U's hall 3 could cater to HFR since the Atmos was just installed there. The hall seemed brand new, as though it's just renovated.

QUOTE(crazyconsumer @ Dec 12 2013, 03:18 PM)

HFR was normal like tgv experience. Not even sure Atmos was in action.... like no difference. Not surprised they screw that up too. Some scenes have nice surround effects eg forest, rain... but I can't say if its due to atmos
*
Trust me if there's HFR it would feel miles different from the usual halls. It's impossible to not notice it. So TGV IMAX does not have HFR, ok. But it sounds like even the HFR hall in GSC isn't working?

Haha guys let's focus on the content instead of how it will be presented. The content is a bit disappointing... No amount of Atmos or IMAX can improve it

3/5 for me. I watch 3d.
Story less draggy and more action than the first, but still draggy. Lack the epic feeling. No epic moments really if u wan to compared it to LOTR, but it has its moments (hint legolas)
3D nth special, abit of 3d effects infront( insect n particles) but nt worth the money n eye strain.
Still feel they milking the franchise , im a lotr fan

kinda disappointed in this one.

like the other person mentioned, it lacks the epicness. I liked The Unexpected Journey, and at least it made me go "Wow." TDOS made me slouch and rest my head on my hand a few times, and they pretty much dropped out a few favourable scenes in the book that would've made the movie much better..

some scenes were fun, like

the battle scenes were mehhhh. maybe lotr had set too high an expectation for me laugh.gif but HOPEFULLY the war of the five armies in the third installation will put us on the edge of our seats.

Conclusion, TDOS was poorly written.

2.7/5 for me
