different cables might give you different BER rates but should only be apparent on long distances. You should actually be wary of cheap cables only for the reason that certain resolutions are not supported due to how it is made (soldering/connection to pins etc.) I bought a not-so-cheap cable that could only do 576p. 720p flickers.. and 1080i/1080p is a black screen.
