Hi,

I'm planning to hook my laptop to a 32" monitor. I'm looking at Toshiba Regza. But I'm not sure if my laptop will support the resolution of 720p or 1080p.

Can you guy tell me what to look for when I shop for my new laptop. What do I have to take into consideration in terms of graphics card, resolution, etc?

I'm planning to get a HP laptop online. It have ATI radeon graphics card and also a HDMI output. So I'm just assuming it can connect to a HDTV. Not too sure about it, just my assumption & logic.

Anyone, connected their lappy's to HDTV before? 32" preferably.

Will the image on the HDTV be stretched? I'm just afraid that the image/icons will be very small on the 32. I don't wanna stare so close to the 32. I'm thinking the distance between my eye & the 32 should be about 3 feet. You agree?

At the distance of 3', the image/icon on the HDTV should be big enough so that I don't have to squeeze my eyed to look at documents or excel spreadsheets. You get what I mean? Therefore, before I invest in 1, I need to be 100% sure first. It ain't a cheap game after all.

IF u want to get a LCD for the sole purpose of becoming u'r PC screen, then i suggest u go with a LCD monitor instead? Why? Because the pixels for a 32 LCD TV is too big. Its just awkward to use a LCD TV for computer usage.

And to answer u'r question.. No the Image will NOT be stretched. U just have to make sure u're outputting to the native LCD TV display res.

Just FYI, surfing/working on a 19" LCD MONITOR beats a 32" LCD TV anytime. Its definitely more comfortable.

Is that true? hmm.gif hmm.gif

What about the pixels for a 1080p HDTV as my monitor?

When you said the pixels are too big, you mean to say that the icon on my desktop will look very big, thus, the image quality will deteriorate. Is that what you meant?

Another 1 of my concern is that while viewing images/icons on my laptop looks good & normal, but I'm afraid when I hook it up to the 32, I will see jagged edges on the icons/images. Can anyone please verify or add to this. unsure.gif unsure.gif

I used to connect my DELL XPS to a Sony W400 which is Full HD. Its perfect when u use to watch movies but frankly speaking, sucks for PC usage.
No, the icons will not look big and ugly. Its just that its impossible to sit a few feet away and work on a 40" LCD. You will go blind for that.

Its really simple, just grab a VGA cable, drive to the shop and ask for permission to connect to their display set. Most of them will gladly oblige. Then u will have a much better idea. No point asking here since we can't give u a reasonable answer.

I thought about what you said, going to the shop & test it out. But sometimes when I think about, I'm not sure whether M'sian electronic store sellers & their mentality will allow me to do so. Well, I'll try it out next year in SenHeng or or electronic stores. Hope they allow me to.

I'm sure here in U.S ppl will allow me to do so. They'll be more than happy to guide me.

Thanks for the info.
