^ So what's the problem with the Toshiba's that made u said the above? I always thought the Toshiba's have very natural looking colors even at the store display.

Vampiric, can u take some pictures on how "bad" u'r TV actually looks when connected through HDMI using a PC.
U mentioned they look bad at 1080p. How about lower res, e.g 1080i or even 720p? |

IF u want to get a LCD for the sole purpose of becoming u'r PC screen, then i suggest u go with a LCD monitor instead? Why? Because the pixels for a 32 LCD TV is too big. Its just awkward to use a LCD TV for computer usage.
And to answer u'r question.. No the Image will NOT be stretched. U just have to make sure u're outputting to the native LCD TV display res. Just FYI, surfing/working on a 19" LCD MONITOR beats a 32" LCD TV anytime. Its definitely more comfortable. |

I used to connect my DELL XPS to a Sony W400 which is Full HD. Its perfect when u use to watch movies but frankly speaking, sucks for PC usage.
No, the icons will not look big and ugly. Its just that its impossible to sit a few feet away and work on a 40" LCD. You will go blind for that. Its really simple, just grab a VGA cable, drive to the shop and ask for permission to connect to their display set. Most of them will gladly oblige. Then u will have a much better idea. No point asking here since we can't give u a reasonable answer. QUOTE(P.I.M.P @ Oct 21 2008, 01:21 PM) Is that true? What about the pixels for a 1080p HDTV as my monitor? When you said the pixels are too big, you mean to say that the icon on my desktop will look very big, thus, the image quality will deteriorate. Is that what you meant? Another 1 of my concern is that while viewing images/icons on my laptop looks good & normal, but I'm afraid when I hook it up to the 32, I will see jagged edges on the icons/images. Can anyone please verify or add to this. |

^ I watched "Norton Hears a Who" with "Intelligent Frame Creation" turned on with the Panny PY800 and was pleasantly surprised.
Having said that, I have it turned OFF all the time. |

Lets see. If I take your numbers for 20K hours and I watch about 3hrs a day
20000/3 = 6666 days = 18 years. (Pardon me if my calculations are wrong, I just woke up 18 years.. can I seriously expect my Plasma to last for 18 years? Heck, I doubt I'll be using the same TV in the next five years. People choose plasma for a reason, Picture quality. (Please don't compare with LED LCDs..that's another range of TVs) Before my current plasma, I've used 3 LCDs for the past year and all three are nothing but disappointment, even the Sony W400. So far, I'm perfectly happy with my Panny. Here's what CNET Australia has to say and the article is pretty recent (April 2008) QUOTE 3. Lifespan http://www.cnet.com.au/tvs/0,239035250,339273215,00.htmLifespan, the number of viewing hours a television provides before dimming to half brightness, used to be one of the biggest advantages LCD has over plasma. Though the numbers vary among the different brands, they now generally last up to around 60,000 hours regardless of the technology. Have fun with your Phillips LCD |

^ Good point. I watch my movies exclusively at night (gotta work during the day) and I usually turn the lights off and add a backlight to the TV. That's why I chose a Plasma.
As for gaming issues, I thought Plasma's low refresh rates (or was it high??) makes it suitable as tend to ghost less? Watched Heroes Ep 8 and 9 yesterday in 720p..ah, absolutely heaven.. :-) |
