Hi guys,

I'm planning to further studies (in MBA). Currently, I'm holding a Electronics degree with 3 years exp. If I goto Australia :

1) Can I bring my wife there too (no dependents)?

2) Can she work full-time (as an accountant)?

3) After graduation (maybe 2-years time), can I stay and work in Australia? How hard is it?

4) In the UK, an international student will get 1-year working permit upon completion of masters. Is there something similar in Australia?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi guys,

Thanks for the advice. It seems I have 2-options. To go there with "student VISA" or under "skilled migrant VISA".
I've gone thru the website and need some advice.

1) If I apply student VISA (much cheaper compared to migrant worker) and bring my wife, can she work there (Caufield) as an accountant? If so, how many hours per week?

Quote "Family members of students enrolled in Masters by coursework can work unlimited hours once the student starts their main course."

Another quote "Your family members must:

...
-work no more than 20 hours per week
...
"

2) How to get accountant skills accessed in Malaysia ?

Once I graduate (2 years time), then maybe i'll apply for "skilled working" VISA, cause I will have more points by then smile.gif

1) well you found the answer, but i would like to point out tat if you planning to bring your wife in and since she is in accounting, try see if the big 4(PWC,E&Y...)  have any vacancy in melb or upon arrival then search. there is many ways to come in anyway.

2) skill assesment might take time unless.

anyway

Hi KV,

Thx for the info. I think she'll search for a job there once we get there in AUS. She worked for PWC KL sometime ago...

I will be going there to study full time with student VISA (and not mainly working as some of you might have misunderstood). My wife (which has CPA) will be accompanying me there, and will be trying to search for a job while my course duration. Since I'm doing postgrad, then she can work there 'unlimited hours' (will confirm with AUS again).

According to the points calculation, my wife barely passes (not in the sinking pool). If I study there for 2 years (with her working there), then we can definitely get more points.

Yes, I'm considering UK too (UK study fair this weekend in KLCC), but it is rather pricey. An MBA course in UK would cost ~120k, while in AUS its ~70k. Not sure whether the cost of living might actually offset the lower fees in AUS... Any "study in australia" fair in KL?

The day he rose again...Happy Easter!
