Yeah,what to do?

I still think we should have the traffic concession.
*
We should! Some international students brought up a case against the NSW government to allow us to be entitled for the concession, we actually won the case but the NSW government took it to the federal court. I guess we'll have to wait for like 3 more yrs until this case settles.

Bachelor in Design, there is so many major inside, i have no idea which to choose and still waiting for credit transfer, i went to Griffith Uni and have a look at the program structure, so many courses, some major in Griffith offering i had already learned. =/ I dont have any idea how they going to make the credit transfer cause right now i got Diploma Multimedia In Design, i know basic programming, 3D, also know Basic graphic design like logo design, letterhead, avertising stuff. All the stuff in major know already, why do i need to learn basic stuff in compulsary subject which i already learn. I did call back my college requested for detail outline of my courses. Now i am worry i need to study 3 full years stuff, that i already know half of the subject. Shit =/

Design: does this mean you're in Griffith? Anyway, welcome to Brisbane!

It all depends which course you're in. Here in QUT, if you're doing Business/Econs/Accounting, there are Asians everywhere. Do something like Bio-science, and it's almost all whites.
*
Yea i am in Griffith U, locate in South Bank and thanks... i think i like Brisbane Life rather than KL life but my parent dont like. =(

Talking about courses, yea haya your right, i meet a couple asian student study either Business/Econs/Accouting/Hotel Managment.

Today went to Griffith U for orientation, confirm all white. Shit

It is stupid. It's like everyone gets the traffic concession but not the international students. The part that makes me scratch my head is why exchange students get it but not international students?

Isn't it both of them are the same?Except one of them stay in Aus longer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only 2 states where international students DO NOT get concession fares for public transport are NSW and Vic. QLD, SA, WA and TAS all give their international students concession fares. And I doubt anyone here is in NT.

Don't know about the other guys, but to me it doesn't mean bus fares lol, but concessions for other things, like books, fees, course discounts, admin paperwork and applications to specific governmental discounts. I'm the kind of person that likes to maximize my buck.

i think you all have to see all this in perspective.....

the 'concessions' actually means a subsidy from the public purse.......which means their tax money.......

they pay high taxes, and therefore rightly expect some returns in services, be it education, parks, concessions etc........

you as an international student, have NOT contributed anything at all to the country, nor did your parents.......therefore cannot expect to enjoy the same benefits as the locals......

your fees is the REAL cost of education there, plus a bit of profit.......the locals pay about 1/3, the balance being subsidised by the public purse (called commonwealth supported places), and citizens can defer paying their fees, till they graduate and start work, once their income exceeds a predetermined threshold, the IRD starts cutting some deductions from their salary for paying this debt.........

a very fair, and equitable system..........

thus those in states with transport concessions, should be thankful they are so generous to you.....they do NOT have to........

in the old days, they were even more generous, and some of your parents actually had 'free' education in oz (and nz, uk, and canada), actually again subsidised by their tax payers........these days are long gone.......

exchange students are different, they are 'exchange' ie from another country, in exchange for an aussie to study there.......thus they accord the same privileges to exchange students, as the other countries accord the same to the aussie students overseas..........understand......?

so stop complaining......if there is any complain you want to make, it should be against YOUR own government, why you have/need to go overseas to study, when your parents have paid msian taxes all their lives, and got nothing back in return.........

Of course they do pay tax. GST is a tax, and international students pay that. When you rent property, there's tax involved. Buy cars or property, there's stamp duty which is a tax. Many students work as well.

Full fees basically support the entire university system in Australia. Plus, as the NSW Tribunal has ruled, not giving international students concession is discrimination.

aww limeuu why are you so touchy? you're the governor of Melbourne? lol.. and furthermore, we're just complaining here.. this is a casual forum where we malaysians discuss stuff? ultimately, it's the bloody government's decisions whether we international students are entitled to concession rates or not..

I don't see why we should STOP complaining HERE.. if you're getting an eyesore (in which you should ban yourself from this forum) reading what we write then don't bloody bother!

You, too, are entitled to your views. but don't bloody come here and go "STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS COUNTRY BUT COMPLAIN ABOUT YOUR OWN COUNTRY INSTEAD".

Just my two bloody cents smile.gif

gst is a consumption tax, and agree students pay it too, but so do tourist and visitors.......can't quite claim for refund, although many countries allow gst refund for visitors......students don't buy new cars (at least they don't before, unless things have changed) or property..........and 20 hours/week at minimum wage don't quite bring you into major tax bracket........and all these certainly does amount to any significant contribution to oz economy to claim equal rights..........

i think we are all aware full fees contribute to the funding of oz public education, but not quite 'support the entire university system in Australia'.........but there are obviously NO shortage of people who willingly allow themselves to be 'taken advantaged of'.........there must obviously a strong pull factor........nobody puts a gun on your head to study full fees there........

finally, it is a measure of their sense of fair play, that the court actually rules to accord visitors and temporary residents the same privileges as citizens...........in sharp contrast to institutionalised discriminations against sections of citizenship in some countries...........

i am having a wee bit of problem understanding here.......needs work on the english, me thinks.....

and where did i ever ask anyone to stay in msia?.........

i am fully aware of the issues of msian domestic education and its problems.....

as foreign students, oz has an obligation to provide you an education for money, and nothing extra.......that is all i am pointing out amidst all the ranting and raving about transportion costs......we all know a majority of full fees students (from all over, not just msia) goes there with the intention of eventually settling there.......but until such time you get your residency papers, you are still a full fees international student with a dream.......

put yourself in the other shoes........how do you feel about indonesian and bangla students studying in msian ipta, taking places from you, given the same privileges as you........

I dont mind having public transport concession since we never pay a single cents to the Aus gov.it's just the current situation is too much for us.

Citizen,PRs and exchange students has 50% discount.

I guess i'll just avoid it if possible to keep the living cost down.Walking is good for health too. flex.gif

It's not a big deal compare to the NEP.
