Lol Empire23, and that was which year?
I supposed that was prior to SPM 2001.
After that, things got much better when "Musang Hitam" got replaced.

I think it was 2003 lah.

Heh, i never studied and bummed around all the time, even i wasn't expecting miracles.

Yesh, money is number one. Even RMIT will throw out the 3.0 requirement when you show them the cash.

Passing their exams is another story. Here the passing mark is 50 and recently they cut our time from 3 hours to 2 per paper. lol.

I'm not sure how its like for you in engineering, but the bulk of the papers we had in Comp Sci mainly requires only around 1.5 hours to finish off, despite the 3 hour timeline (except for those that requires a lot of writing).

The 1st hour more or less determines the passing point. Should a person not be able to get to the passing point by the 1st hour, then chances of failure is extremely high. The other 30 minutes is just to fill in the rest of the stuff that's skipped in the 1st hour.

I'll tell you the truth, i personally felt given enough time 90 would have been easy for my Telecommunications Principles exam, it's not like i didn't know all the answers, my hand just got too tired to keep up. All the questions came out as generally long winded essays, managed only an A instead of a HD. No time to check, even until the last minute i was rushing my ass off.

First thing our lec said before the exams was "you're now given 2 hours folks, it'll be interesting to see how you fare this year"

They also chucked out the supplementary exams for students who failed the finals but got more than 80 in their assignments cry.gif

QUOTE(USQStudent08 @ Aug 5 2008, 10:47 PM)
The engineering exams at USQ have about 4-5 main questions with each broken down into a few subsections.
Imagine you have to give short essays for each sub question(lots of writing to be done).

Assuming that you have 4 questions, how much time do you get with each question? 1/2 hour?
Split that with another 4 subsections, you get about 7-8 minutes to write short answers for each.Hardly you'll have anytime to think carefully..

Especially those 3rd-final year subjects, I've seen many who got tensed up towards the last 15 minutes struggling to complete what they want to write.

2 hours you can barely have time to check through your answers.I had a few subjects during my time which needed 3 yet I still couldn't complete them in time.

What course you taking lol?

You guys actually go to lectures? doh.gif Oh man tongue.gif
*
Yeah. Most of the times they're crap boring.

But i've learnt one thing well here. The lecturers are human too. Turning up at the end of the sem without coming to classes and then expecting the lec to give you tips isn't going to make you buddies. If i'm lazy, the least i do is email the lec and tell him i can't come to a few lecs and tuts on so and so week due to "insert excuse here". They appreciate it, trust me.

Even stuff like christmas cards and simple greetings matter alot. My friend gave this chinese lecturer a CNY card once and the lec remembered it, a year later offered him a research position. End point is that they're humans too.

Don't come to my classes and i'll make sure i'm doubly anal when i mark your papers.

Guys Need Help.  icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

I'm traveling to Melbourne,Glen Waverly but on a tight budget.
So the plan is to take Air Asia promo flight to Gold Coast.

Can anyone guide me to the best way for me to reach Melbourne(central) from gold coast airport (bus, train ??)  hmm.gif

thanks in advance
*
There isn't a greyhound bus terminal at cooloongatta. You'll have to hop on a bus or train and take it to the brisbane transport hub, then take a bus to melbourne from there.

Oh yeah, it's 2900 KM the last i figured, so nearly 3 days on a bus, plus the bus ticket is as expensive as a flight. Just book another flight from Cooloongatta to Melbourne Avalon. Should cost 140 AUD at worst.

hmm...why you need to take license at Aus ?

our malaysian driving license is valid to use at Aus what..

I want to drive commercial vehicles mah. Still have some stuff to finish up regarding driver authorization.

And yes, Malaysian licenses are still fully valid in QLD. My Queensland license is limited to auto and commercial auto, if i want to drive manual i'll just switch back to malaysian.

Also on the sidelines, in Queensland Malaysians that hold a full driving Malaysian  license and is/are(?) not PR's can drive without getting a QLD driving license, but your authority to drive in Queensland on your foreign
driver licence will be withdrawn 3 months after you become an Australian citizen or 3 months after you get PR.

Of course, please familiarise yourself with the road rules before attempting to drive in anywhere.
*
I have only one major rule when it comes to driving here.

Don't get caught. Fines are mcfukken expensive.

And if possible, use your malaysian license when driving, because you can never chalk up demerit points....awesome innit? The pain of fines is bad enough, might as well give yourself a break and spare yourself the crap of demerit points.

And even if you are a PR, if the cops ask, just tell them it's only been 2 months, they'll buy it. One of my eng lecs, a malaysian has been driving here for the past 10 years with his constantly renewed malaysian license.

Not really, just take it to any transport department branches, they'll ring up the DIAC and they'll have it done in 2 shakes of a second.

costs of food, entertainment, clothes, and even books can be controlled, but what i found the most difficult cost to get rid of is accommodation, especially if you are studying in melbourne or sydney. For me, $95 per week for rental always exceed all other costs and it's like a solid rock that can't be broken.

Find job. Live expensive. Money from my old slaughter place job netted me enough to pay my rent in advance for 5 months and i had spare change left too.

Hahaha, i'm washing plates in a Thai and Chinese restaurant for $50 per night, it won't be enough. Do you have any nice recommendation?

Goddamn those cheap asian people tongue.gif

Pre-opening work at K-Mart is short and pays well, about 4 hours work and you get paid 70 bucks not including super.

Working at Maccas at night along Ruthven will net you 21 an hour. Getting there by bike isn't too hard.

If you want day time, you can try the poultry farms. Call 04 07652491 (It's Irene i think). 18.50 an hour, daytime gig, transport provided to Gatton.

If you want to go through the shit that i went through at Harristown with lesen, you can try regent taxis down the coast, 30 bucks an hour easy.

Depends on the trouble you wanna go through. If you wanna drive taxis and need a heads up, you're welcome to ask.

Toowoomba so boring, might as well take up a sport.

I used to shoot pistols back in Malaysia, but if i want to shoot em now, it's alot of paperwork, so rifles are good enough.
