A cheaper place would be in the suburbs. You need to contact the university student services for accommodation help. How much are you willing to spend on accommodation/food..etc a week?

Ugh I've bumped into some complications again. Not sure if you guys would know or not.
My passport expires at 2010, but the course that I'm doing is supposed to end at Mid of 2012.
When my passport expires, what should I do? The student visa is stamped in the passport right?

Is there a Malaysian embassy at Australia that could help me to settle this without coming back to Malaysia?

Yup in Canberra if i'm not mistaken.
And i heard if you applied for Malaysia passport there you must collect in person also, no mail allowed (correct me if i'm wrong).
My advise renewed your passport at Malaysia after your 1st year and informed the Aussie Immigration about your new passport. It's that easy.
Student visa stamped in passport?? Not 'stamped' there unless your make a paper application at the Aussie Embassy. My case i don't have any stamped or a visa label(since i applied online), i got a visa label when i applied for working permission here, went to the immigration department and got a visa label there.

Well, my passport expires at August 2010. Erm, it's still studying period.
Can I renew my passport early 2010 (a few months before my expiry date) ?
Maybe that's the only time I come back for CNY laugh.gif

it' ok, either it's studying period or what so long it's at least 6 months before expired. Early 2010 to renew also no problem, just make sure you informed the Aussie immigration regarding your new passport details.

is the melbourne model an accredited course? becauseaccording to the lady who was at the melb booth during idp open day(she was from idp, not from melb btw) it isnt. so i applied for the 4 yr bachelor of engineering course(the safer choice i assumed) opting to continue with my masters separately.

then i read a booklet on melbournes engineering course structure, and for the malbourne model, the bachelor of engineering didnt mention anything about being accredited but the masters section had the words (accredited).

so is it safe to follow the melbourne model? im afraid of what would happen if it didnt get accredited by the time i graduate tongue.gif

Not trying to promote anything illegal, but...

to those who are currently studying in Australia, did you encounter forced check of software license installed on laptop in the airport? I'm thinking to get a new laptop, and of course i will be using genuine Windows, but i am still thinking whether or not to purchase the ridiculously expensive Microsoft Office 2007. So, i would like to ask for suggestion besides purchasing this piece of software. Any of you use open source software such as Open Office, AbiWord, or Microsoft Works? Are they capable enough to handle school works?

Another evil solution on my mind is to convert the *ahem* version of Office into ISO image and store in my hard disk(so everything would be fine during airport check), then install it after i'm in there. But i am wondering the feasibility of this method, as i heard Australia is a very strict country.

force to check of software license in airport? I really doubt it would happen. The most they would check is your Windows.

Ah, damn it. That shopkeeper tried to convince me to spend hundreds ringgits to purchase a license for Office 2007, telling me the airport checking stuff. Luckily i was not convinced.

To be safe, i will make sure my laptop is not containing any pirated software before entering the airplane.

What are the solutions for you guys? Using the licensed Office 2007/2003 to do your assignments?
