i think we might have to reconsider which substrate is good for our tortoise, another thing about the wood chip is that they seem to keep moisture and kinda hard for them to dry. to me the best would be the turned upside down tile.

that's why we have the hygrometer... anything below 50 should be fine

please also note that humidity that is too low (very dry habitat) might contribute to pyramiding (proven in sulcata)

just a reminder.

after the recent announcement of stricter trade laws of star tortoise, seems that everyone is rushing to buy new tortoise/turtles.

just be sure that you are well prepared (mentally, financially, responsibility, socially, etc). too much pets at one go will be quite overwhelming.

cheers
*
yup.. right bro.

err.. what's the plan tonight?

I wonder Sulcata & Leopard is under the same trade law?

International Trade in Endangered Species Act 2007 (Flora and Fauna).. figure that.

I feel bad about these lovely creatures. I feel that we should no create a glut by purchasing so many it will cause their demand to surge. After all the best place for them is their natural habitat. If you want to raise then i think 1 or 2 is enough.
*
raise one or two? THAT IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST CONTRIBUTING FACTORS TO EXTINCTION.

if everyone decides to keep one or two without any captive breeding initiatives, the turtles would die in vain without having any successors to their genes.

only serious keepers which keep many turtles of the same species can help in the cause.

natural habitat is just a sorry excuse for prime harvesting ground, period.

welcome.

you obviously need a bigger housing for those turtles (not enough depth) and certainly a bigger basking spot (that bridge is tad too small).

RIP

however, i'd like to ask: how do you distinguish the sex between those turtles?

the pic from your earlier post shows 3 small sized turtles, no visible sexual dimorphism in specimens of that size.

truth is, i won't be able to spend much time online. maybe once or twice a month, at most.

however, it's quite nice seeing all of you here and i hope that you'd all be successful in your ventures.

golden thread turtle i saw someone selling in the net. wanna ask is that this turtle is the normal 'grass turtle' that we found in malaysia? wondering around bushes and grass land... my friend from seremban saw the picture just now and said he always saw this type of turtle wonder around his house.. ( a bit in kampung )
*
Ocadia sinensis (sinensis of course refers to organisms that came from china) is a non-native species, it could not be naturally found here. most probably your friend misID'ed the picture as a boxie.

(there are specimens of formerly captive turtles that escaped or were released by their owners here, but the number is quite small to be considered as 'normally' found in malaysia)

based on your (vague) description, my guess is you could have stumbled upon either:

i) Elongated tortoise
ii) Someone else's missing star or radiated (hands licin sikit) or some other valuable tortoise
iii) Something else that you totally misIDed

if it was either (i) or (ii), i'd say... your lost dude!
nothing came out of drain for me except boxies and res.

the tortoise in the particular picture (i believe the original picture belongs to jq_tan) could be worth 3 to 4 digits depending on size and gender.

base on your description, the one you saw could be something that worth even more in terms of value and rarity

anyway, as sam mentioned.. you already let go, so no ID can be confirmed.

good. continue ur good job.
and stop being a moron.
idk how to take care for tortoise... wooo...
why bother telling? if u want know how to take care, just go google.
dont need to explain how terrible u keep tortoise. put in pail and kangkung? wtf man... no comment.
*
chill out bro... smile.gif

he already mentioned that he found it in a drain, have no idea what it really is and already let go since he don't know how to take care. the pail thing should be a temporary arrangement since not all people have a spare aquarium at home.

the way he handled the situation is quite normal actually, most people without the know-how would do exactly the same.

and i give him credits since he let go rather than hanging on to it with wrong husbandry.

I thinks their new home is too hot , still working on the shading area and small FGT pond , hopefully  they can adapt to the new environment and start mating again..
I stop keeping impressa already ... smile.gif
*
no more impressa? sayang one...

by the way bro, those netting above your impressa enclosure looks tad too low. those black netting literally absorbs heat from sunlight, and when put on that low could raise temperatures around the torts instead of lowering them.

(try touching the net during midday. and try to opt for unglazed pots for hideout)

Hey, IINM RES must eat underwater right?
Damn pity this RES hafta keep going in and out of the water to swallow.

res can and will eat under, above or out of water. water just makes swallowing easier.

hello..i always travel back n forth from kl to kedah by bus..so how am i gonna keep my star tort warm during d journey? d condition in d bus is always ice cold n d journey will normally take bout 4-5 hours........
*
ever heard of hot pack? wrap those with some layers of cloth and put it in box alongside your star. 1 pack should warm the creature for a couple of hours.

you could also hug your star all the way inside your jacket laugh.gif

either way, they'd pee and defecate.. so don't expect to woo that hot chick sitting beside you.

p/s: peter pet.. i like your nick. just like peter pepper (rafiqos loves them LOL)
