The area outlined by the red line in the picture indicates the part on the screen that is not responsive to touches.

Most probably is software problem.

even if u not perform jailbreak it got no warranty. it is not officially available in malaysia. Thus it is not covered by warranty. It isn't like the international warranty that comes with other apple products.

but maybe still can claim from apple US. but remember though that the warranty is partially covered by AT&T and Apple (US iPhone), so if the phone isn't intended for use with the contracted network under the contracted plan, the iPhone is not necessarily covered Apple / AT&T warranty. But still can try to send for warranty. Maybe there's a chance.

Not actually void. you always can restore it to original state before send to warranty. sad,iPhone warranty is not international. So,you had to sent back to US. All this is the bad purchasing iPhone now. Anyway,no risk no gain.

As LaskarCinta mentioned, warranty is partially covered by AT&T and Apple (US iPhone), so the actual procedure for claim warranty still a blur.

There is a soft-method you can try which involves editing the General settings plist file to increase the touch sensitivity of the screen. More details on that if you're interested, PM me wink.gif

Just for those who are interested to get an iPhone now:

The warranty period for iPhone purchased in Malaysia is 1 WEEK ONLY.
I repeat: 1 WEEK.

So think twice/thrice before you put your money into the bucket.

As long as it's not the whole screen freezing or even when shutting down, the RED slide can't be slide, there is still hope. Just uninstall and reinstall the summerboard. IF u have a long of applications installed and can't do this as you will not be able to see thhe installer after yor uninstall the summerboard. Then, the only solution is the restore and jailbreak the iphone again. Wipe out the corrupted summerboard.

frank speaking irman. if you cant fix your iphone, i suggest you rip it apart and sell it as spare parts. the MOST you rugi is perhaps 10%. just go and buy another iphone. solves all your nightmares.

don't sell it here though. sell it on ebay.com (not ebay.com.my) on international market. if you need tips on that, pm me! good luck irman

Same boat as IRMAN...

I really dunnow how this could have happened... barely got to use mine then this happened.

EDIT: So distraught I forgot to ask what I wanted to post here for in the first place...

Anyone knows where to source for a replacement screen...

Second hand also nvm as long as it works... if its cheap I don't mind giving a shot... too expensive migh not be worth it coz I don't think I'm willing to risk it all on a long shot, high risk and no money back attempt tongue.gif

Not much info available for now, but the culprit maybe due moisture from the stories of others. Why dont the owner try to recall what might have resulted in that? Like, maybe kept the phone in the pant while jogging/walking under hot sun? The sweat might be the reason.
This might help others to avoid the damage.

Yeah I've carried it around in my jeans... but no exposure to moisture... mainly I've got car keys and coins. There was a small scratch on the screen from carrying in my pocket but that didn't seem to cause any immediate problems.

Everything continued to work until recently... I had the iPhone docked and connected to wifi and halfway installing a package the screen stopped working cry.gif

This might be the culprit?

Side note, it doesn't need water spills or rains. Sweats could vaporised through the jeans too.

You are very sure it's not software/firmware error? Then if you're comfortable with dismantling your iPhone, might as well you get a replacement LCD to fix it instead of selling it as spare parts? But how are you sure that which part is the faulty part if you want to sell it as spare parts?

For my case is there a replacement LCD under RM400?

I don't mind giving it a shot...

edit: I've read this link http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6523266 and it seems a lot of folks are having problems with the iPhone screen...

I think the iPhone LCD is prone to happen...

I think you'll need a replacement screen instead of LCD cause your digitizer is the problem.

I have not seen any replacement screen under RM400 shipped to MY.

If you managed to find, you could share it here.
