Ya... Sometime maybe bird people working there simply say bird words...

And when we are serious to buy, they will say mistake.... no that cheap actually... or easiest, no stock! shakehead.gif

I hope I can see price tag of 1D mark III for less than RM10k, then sure I grab.... drool.gif

Unfortunately I got a 4.4K price tag when I went to ask. I'm darn serious to buy on that day and I even tell them that I have all the cash ready but the price remains. In the end I went to Canon store in lowyat plaza.

Want to ask, I'm gonna get the 400D (after finding out the 450d's price). Should I get the kitlens? I mean it does not have IS and it has a bad review. And if I dont get it, what lens should i get?(I'm on a budget) I'm gonna get a 50mm and a 55-250 also.

Well, it depends on your needs actually. Say you photograph that are majority in insufficient light then go for the IS one. But i recommend starting with the most basic set up. Well thats just me though.

Of course the one with the IS is better. I haven't exactly tested the IS version of the kit, I heard it does a OK 4 f stop compensation. But it's still a pain shooting in lowlight moving objects.

I personally started out with the normal kit. I'm still loving it. It doesn't suck that much, honestly. I get pretty good pictures with it too. smile.gif

400d with kit lens (non-IS) should be enough for normal, on the budget to start with...
50mm & 55-250mm IS are also good & cheaper combination...
if u want to start with 2nd hand... u can visit my garage sale here...
or browse at mir, photomalaysia, shutterasia etc...
but pls make sure that they sell with local canon warranty...

Ok thanks everyone for their replies.

wjie20- hmm, i thought i wanted the standard kit too, but hearing a lot people saying this lens is bad, i had second thoughts.

CutieLynette- Ok, thanks. I hope I'll get good pictures too with the non-is.

asrolsani- srry, i want to buy a set with all the lens dumped in. The canon warranty is red colour right?

The EF-S 18-55mm got bad reviews because it's a cheap lens. Performance in photography always come with price. However, considering the cheap price of the lens, it's not that bad either especially if you take photos in well lit surrounding.

not a problem. at the start of SLR photography, I would suggest on starting with any lens no matter what the review is. Like I say, get used to the body 1st then the lens.

If it's your first time in SLR, then i think you better worry more about your passion in photography first than to worry your gears.

If you have an option to buy a 400D + 18-55mm IS f3.5-5.6 IN A PACKAGE, then get it. The IS may come in helpful when you really need it. BUT, if they do not come in a package. DO not go and buy a 18-55mm IS separately, it's a waste. Just use the normal kitlens they included.

Ok, lets say the salesman quoted you. Just an eg, not real price.

RM2000 for 400D+18-55mm
RM2300 for 400D+18-55mmIS.

I will go for the 400D with normal kitlens. RM300 more for an IS is really not worth it, coz you may need to replace the kit lens in the future. IF it's RM100+ more expensive, then it's still considerable.

So good luck in hunting your first SLR. =)
