You're not the only one, as Leopard seems to be not as stable as Tiger was. Try keeping your Mac updated (install all those software updates), and perhaps run those Maintenance softwares to keep everything optimised and tidy.

i've heard a lot hype about macs OSes are really really really stable platform

after swapping from pc to mac, i've encountered quite a lot of non-responding apps as well as a total system freeze or 2. all in all, i'm still glad that i made the move to turn into a mac user biggrin.gif

Hi all,

I believe it is other software issues.
My leopard used to crash , I figured out which app was causing the Crash in my case it was Transmission , every time i started it up after like 10 mins it would crash the leopard and i had to hard rest my macbook.

Since i stopped using that application (instead using Azureaus) i am no longer experiencing any crashes.

So all you got to do is figure out which application is causing the crash, Leopard is actually quite stable compared to Tiger if you ask me , in Tiger we had lots of applications freezing , not in leopard, and it is much faster.

Keep in mind also that not all the applications that you install on Leopard is developed for leopard, so it might causes some problem , shocking.gif

One more thing , Macintosh and OS X are not some magical hardware with no problem at all that can do everything that you ask of it , it has its limitations , it is not prefect, but it is much better than Windows and easier the Linux( and yes i have experience with both OSs and i consider Leopard thumbup.gif the best OS i have used so far, I have tried Red Hat , Ubuntu , Windows XP doh.gif , Windows Vista doh.gif ).

and i am no fanboy. drool.gif

Good Luck thumbup.gif

I think we can safely rule out that this isn't a Leopard problem, but merely a clash in conflicting softwares.

Speaking from experience on my BlackBook smile.gif

I got no prob with Leopard so far, doing mainly video edits with the iMac. The only prob is I do not have enough RAM so causing the rainbow ball cursor appears and software lags when I ran too many program at once. I need more RAM. I am still using 1GB.

sides, many will speculate it will most probably be released once the MacBook Air is shipping alongside Time Capsule due to their requirements.

anyways as for your problem , quite all the applications that you usually run on your leopard once you start the system. Than one by one open each and use them for a while , wait a bit , see which one causes crash shakehead.gif in leopard.

and than don't use it anymore, or at least until you get the update.

leopard doesn't have any problem ,it is the other softwares conflicting with leopard , as Peanutz said. you just have to identify the app that is causing hmm.gif it.

i think some of usual suspects are :

* Firefox
* Transmission

any other suggestion for the list:

Well, TS, if you don't mind, have you try reformat it? Clean install Leopard and see the issue still occur or not wink.gif

I have 2GB of RAM, but sometimes the rainbow ball cursor appears as well. Then when I check, I still have 1.4GB of RAM untouched and yet the rainbow ball cursor appears tongue.gif

Hope the next patch does something about it smile.gif

my transmission crashes the most.. if not crash very often, use up to 99% cpu.. sien then the mb become so hot and noisy.. wt to do, no utorrent yet.

just now quicksilver also crashed.. 99% cpu usage

but heard that 10.5.2 out very soon.. so hope no more prob

u crash in dictionary.. if u select "all" when finding dictionary.. will come out spinning wheel(at least for me).. so try selecting dictionary function only.

Hmmm yea okie that confirms it Transmission is buggy doh.gif , it is a shame. it is a very good Torrent program.
Meanwhile you can use Azureus notworthy.gif , that is pretty good too , if you ask me much more reliable than transmission.

hmm.gif But i have no problem with Quicksilver it works fine ,and same goes for the dictionary , i just tried what you said and it works just fine. How much RAM have you got?

1g only.. so far no lagging unless i open all the programs in my dock and 10 simultaneous quicktime windows and also running parallels.

might consider azureus after upgrading ram, coz azureus kinda resource hogger. but still waiting 4 utorrent mac
