Hi,
I'm following different discussions of this very good DAC and I'm planning to buy it. Just one thing is still nebolous in my mind, and its the follow: if I plug my dac to the optical or digital coaxial out of my sound card, will I hear sound coming from this output, in every situations like games, sound processing (like vst applications), video and music player, just like the analog output, without any need to configure it by software? If its correct, it will be very useful, just like continue using my current sound card but with an upgraded sound (better digital-analog definition). Someone can confirm this? Thk a lot!

Ill suggest you to look to this discussion: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f5/review-ze...pre-amp-269458/
The last picture in the first page will respond to your answer! Ill suggest to even to read the all thread (even if its VERY long), but u will get out everything u must possibly know about this dac.
Bye!

You might want to specify which sound card that you are using. Some sound cards require you to "enable" optical out. Do keep in mind that your soundcard must have either a coaxial or optical output to feed the DAC.

If you have a recent Mac, it's just plug and play. You'll require a mini toslink to toslink cable.

Unfortunately, I'm a windows user blush.gif My sound card is an audigy with a frontal panel where I can plug optical or coaxial input/output. What in particular concern me is if in a situation of sound processing, like feeding an analogical input (like a guitar) and elaborating it digitally (in a software) with the asio drivers of my sound card, I will have a digital output from this source to give to the dac (or not). Hope this is possible, even if I know its a strange question. Thk!

Hi, I've posted the same on head-fi, Ill try even here in case someone could help..

I've got some problems with the zero..Ive changed the two 330uf caps on top of the four decoupling caps with 470uf oscon, and also applied the bypass at all these caps. Now my problem is that right channel turn down on volume, not so much, but clearly noticeable. What should have happened? Bad contacts or soldering? (the one on decoupling caps are very bad, the little circle tin went away some tweaking ago, but were working before, maybe get worse) Maybe Ive lost some contacts in the upper side of the pcb?

If someone can help, Ill be very grateful!!

Ps: Ive found that the right channel have a different hiss, more loud, and if I touch the second decoupling caps on the left, I heard like an interference, like a mass problem maybe.

Hi, I need some technical help from you guys..
Ive been trying to fix a problem with false contact in the decoupling caps area, and messing around with one of them, Ive touched with one leg the heathsink of a voltage regulator wich is under it (I did it with when the dac was running).
I think of a short circuit that burned something, maybe the voltage regulator (lm317) or maybe something else, because the sound now is so low that I can barely hear something at max volume of my amp. My uncle, which is an electrical technician, told me that a schematic will help to find out what could have happened, and if other components have burned. If someone can give me some tips about, even suppositions, or know if a schematic of the zero exists, please tell me!
Thanks a lot!

there isnt any schematic due to commercial products with rights.

what u can do is measure the power supply voltage at the 317 and 117 terminal. u should get +15 and -15 volt. becareful not to short it.

Thanks ccshua, I've checked the power supply and appears to be fine, Im trying to find out whats happened with the help of some skilled friend, and maybe its the dac which is burned. cry.gif

Allow me to wish happy new year to all!!

Did u get smoke coming out when u short something. Any electronic that has smoke means it is fried.

Ive seen no smoke, no burning things, just the sound went away, and now is almost absent (only at max volume I can barely hear something). The most probably thing is that the ad1852 burned, or something in the digital path, I dont know.
I'm planning to change it with dac100 of audiogd, Ive read you have found it more musical.
Maybe I can even recycle some pio caps to bybass some things on it?
