I may start low first ... nearfield listening setup biggrin.gif Looking for something like those RM800ish speaker (Wharfedale Diamond, AE Neo, PSB B1 etc) + T-Amp(bang for the buck, details yet decent enough power for nearfield or small room enviroment), may spent more on IC and Speaker cable, targetting D102 MKIII and Royal Jade (got some lubang from my China friend brows.gif), musical is essential cos next level upgrade would be Audio-GD's higher end DAC which quite certain to be highly transparent + very little musically, thus VDH may accompany me till the end biggrin.gif

Chua, Able & Steve, too bad my baby's not well. Would have been great to join your jam session and hear the differences! Now, we are waiting anxiously to hear your reviews. How did the DAC100 measure up? Have Steve given up and decided to join the CD63 gang? Should I start looking for one too??? Updates Please!!!  notworthy.gif

Still not yet join the CD63 gang, Seriously DAC100 is a step higher than stock ZERO + EARTH discrete opamp, as Abel and Chua mentioned, it's comes with very low distortion, very detailed yet it's clean and smooth, somemore it's quite sensitive to power cord too, we changed 2 power cords in the process, I can easily tells the difference between them, I'm a power cord believer now!!!

Franken Zero is more energy and punchy and clean than stock zero.

DAC100 more musical than Franken zero. Better components and design.

CD63 more natural and analogue sounding and accurate. Deep punchy bass and soundstage is more on DAC 100 and Franken zero.

Last but not least, the Van Tan Hoh sounding of 102MKIII
*
Van Tan Hoh is really good, natural, without any emphasis on any frequencies, no wonder it's selling like a piece of hot cakes for decades!

CD63 is quite good, almost perfect to me but IMHO with better soundstage, details and tigher bass, it's full marks! Something in between DAC100's transparency and CD63's musicality would be the best and most balanced!

CHUA, Franken Zero as in your unit with the Buffer Stage mod still lost out to DAC100? Hmmmm......

OK, what was the transport used for the Zero? CD63 or DVD player or Laptop via digital converter?

STEVE, thanks for your advice! I could have ended up with an Aego if you didn't tell me to stick with separates. Now I have to think of what amp to get.

ABEL, wah.... strong selling on CD63... 1 Penang fella just sold a KI at rm400.

THANKS for your feedback GUYS! Very informative! But a bit more headache for me...

Which speaker are u going to your amp with?

The buffer is good except I havent setup properly.

overall zero being budget dont have good components as compared to dac100. DAC100-> 10,000uF, MUR,etc

Just fin exchanged email with Kingwa, seems like the coming soon budget DAC not going to sell according to customization, so you gotta pay full USD250 for the DAC + headamp in one box. and Kingwa assure me that DAC100 is better than the new budget dac in DAC section due to better regulator and better transformer used inside the DAC100 and he said with better power cord it's going to improves more!

aiyo. no one comment on how is the KEF Cresta 10 + audiospace with 6V6 tube ah.

After listening much about Cresta even with Franken, I find it quite sweet.
*
Personally I think it's quite a good combination, quite musical yet with decent dynamic, the audiospace tube got two type of output selection? Seen Abel switching between 2 modes, the upper one does sound more refined and polite while the lower one sound more punchy and the sound is more compact. Loves the lower one more ... laugh.gif laugh.gif Seems more synergy during our listening session, I found that most of time we were testing about dynamic and bass impact biggrin.gif
