I don't think it has anything to do with the surround channels, looks like it's a codec decoding or bitstreaming error. It's either the BD player or the AVR is faulty. One way to know, maybe you can borrow another BD player from someone. If the problem disappears, then it's your player. But if it's still there, most probably it''s the AVR. Never tested to bitstream HD codecs with my 1800 yet, doesn't have a standalone player. Only my beloved PS3.

QUOTE(moviebuff @ Aug 5 2008, 03:15 AM) Htkaki. there are two option for me to choose in the audio setup. You either go auto or pcm(surround). I go auto. Tested 300 bluray. Same thing. Dolby Digital only. The front panel on the player stated it support Dolby truhd. Can you check for me your Ext Surr in the sound menu of the RX-V1800, Is it auto or some other thing? By the way, I heard the sammy player that you are having can play region one std dvd. Don't know if there is any truth in it. I agree with aiman. Either one could be faulty. I will try to pop a Reg 1 DVD to test it tonight (if I have time)

In oder to utilise all the seven speakers, I set the rx-v1800 Ext Surr to EX/ES. But, after I off the power, It reverse back to Auto. How to make it stay EX/ES?

It's same for my RX-V861...everytime have to do it manually unless you use a universal remote control with macro programming to get it right...

My extended surrounds is always the way I set it. Even after I switched off the main power (though you can't disconnect the main power for more than 7 days, or the memory will reset). Do you have 7.1 setup? You'll need to have 7.1 in order for the extended surround to work.

QUOTE(moviebuff @ Aug 9 2008, 10:35 PM) Yeah! I do have a 7.1 setup. Really ar? 6.1/7.1 setup should do it. Strange, I never have this problem. Whenever I play DVDs with DTS/Dolby Digital, my AVR automatically set to DTS-ES Matrix/Dolby Digital EX, and I can hear sound from the surround back speakers. And when I use my PS3, the multi-channel PCM input always show PCM+Dolby EX on the AVR, and again the surround back channels are active.

QUOTE(ycs @ Aug 10 2008, 05:28 PM) got a pair of rega ela floorstand speakers, hoping to get a decent centre for below RM1k? Since you have Rega spkr, Rega R Vox center will be perfect match. But, it will be way above your budget. For me, I would save enough to get the Rega center to have timbre matching. If not, try to get some Brit center spkr then. Monitor Audio BR LCR is one of the choices and it is slightly below RM1K. rated at 90dB, pwr handling at 120W and 6 ohm, it is not difficult to drive

All speakers and brands have its tonal or music characteristic. So as to have the same characteristic, it is always recommended to go for the same make. This way any sound moving from any speakers to the other will not sound differently.

The most important timbre matching is the front/center. The surrounds are still OK to use other brands.
