Guys, which is the best connection for CD to AVR? Digital or analog interconnect? I have Marantz CD5001 and Yamaha RXV663. So which one has better DAC processor? hmm.gif Sorry bro htkaki for hijacking this thread. blush.gif

I tried both with my NAD n 663 and I don't think I can hear any difference. So I stick with coaxial for simplicity.

I read somewhere that you should use analogue out if possible. Not sure, correct me if I'm wrong. hmm.gif

Of course, with analogue, cable quality makes big difference. wink.gif

So for movies what mode are u all using? I found that Straight mode is the best compared to DSP mode like Sci Fi etc. For CD of course I'm using Pure Direct mode.

Music I use pure direct most of the time or straight if I want more bass from sub.
Music video or live consert I use straight all the time coz music with added effect processing sounded funny with too much ambience.
Movie I just press button number 1 and all good to go laugh.gif

I use STRAIGHT all the time for movies/concerts. The track has been mixed the way the director intended, I don't want to hear differently. biggrin.gif

Pure Direct for CDs. For other stereo sources, depends, mostly STRAIGHT, sometimes I use DTS:Neo Music to get the surround working. thumbup.gif

taukeh HTLeg,

aiseh... guess i m right...yammy amp is "harsh" tongue.gif

but again ..ears are very tired if u crank n watch-ed a movie in DTS HD MA lossles audio format for 2hour..

if can u try the AYAM_Legend_DOBI_TRU_HD... i crank-ed to -ve10 but  it is very nice

try again n let me know wink.gif maybe i m getting old tongue.gif hahaha

I watched Die Hard 4.0 in DTS HD MA. Crank up to 30dB. It is really loud at this point. I didnt find it 'harsh'. Oh yes, I read the review that if this 1800 will sound 'strained' under explosive scores. But, I didnt notice it. Maybe they are testing it at reference level. hmm.gif I wonder how it will sound at 20dB sweat.gif

Never before, I felt the power of all my speakers. The KEF surr spkrs are working beautifully with full of energy. The center is 'emphasising' dialogue in a more pronounced way. As for the front, The dual 10" woofers in each cabinets are restless, pumping out bass with ease. I suspect it is due to its 130W per channel rating.

When I have the time and after I got my rear surr spkrs, I shall fine tune it again as there are rooms for improvement.

For CDP, i will analogue anytime. Let's the CDP DAC do the job.

Just tested 300. The 5.1 uncompressed is louder than Dolby True HD with more details. Abt the low end grunt, I feel both are on par. However, not all BDs are encoded in 5.1 uncompressed. Then again, I suspect it could be due to studio recording of the format itself (lower vol of Dolby True HD)

I tried cranking it up to 24dB, which is 2dB less than my usual vol when I was using 2802. Fuyoo, too b**dy loud! The bass is taut and punchy. The sound is just too 'overwhelming'. Quickly, turn the vol down to 32dB.

Itchy hands now. Looking for rear surr spkrs to complete my 7.1 setup. HT hobby damn wallet busting cry.gif That's why I decied to rename my topic to 'not So Budget HT room setup'.I did a rough calculation for the money that I'd spent on this. At least RM21K liao for my 17 yrs of this hobby. Lately, spent too much. Have to get some 'soft' loan from rx330 or Taukeh BD blush.gif

Ok change back to analog. Sounded much better than coaxial hands down.

htkaki, r u the one who use Van Der Hul MKIII analog interconnect, sold it then regret it? I was thinking of getting a pair for my CDP. Currently I use Audioquest Copperhead.

Only RM21k in 17 years? I must do check and balance now. I've spent RM12k (not including LCD TV), and I only started this HT hobby seriously in November last year. doh.gif

I'm using 1800 which is almost RM4k. My cables alone around RM1k. My 80GB PS3 I bought at RM2.4k (with extra controller, HDMI cable, and 2 games + BD remote).

So that's why I've spent so much. doh.gif
