Btw, the 3 BDs still in 'virgin' condition. Hope can 'open' and test tonight

LOL..... I am old. If 2v, also near to death. Luckily, it is BD

Added on July 20, 2008, 9:31 amAfter much thinking and consideration, I took the plunge and bought the RX-V1800 yesterday from A&L.

I must admit that while I was looking for an AVR that could do independent crossover for each channels (which 1800 cant), there isn't any other viable option now. Moreover, my reliable source told me that the new batch of AVR (in Sept) will be more pricey sweat.gif .

(sourgrape a bit)... While independent crossover is good, it has also one disadvantage. If some channels are being set at low crossover, the amp might have to work harder to drive these since it did not channel out all low freq to sub.

Just finished setting up the unit but yet to test as I am not feeling well for the past few days sad.gif Maybe will do calibration later.

Here are some shots taken :

Congratulations bro!  rclxms.gif

This is great! Finally you'll get to hear lossless audio! Have fun setting up and calibrating bro, it took me few days myself. tongue.gif

Is that QED Qunex Silver Reference? I'm using that too. thumbup.gif

Added on July 20, 2008, 10:11 amThe crossover thing doesn't bother me much, it only makes me want to upgrade my surrounds to to better match the fronts, that's all. But don't have the money yet. tongue.gif
*

Tks, bro.

Yes, it is QED Qunex Silver Reference connected to my Pioneer DV400S.

Now, going to do the initial calibration first. As I havent got my surr rear spkrs, just simply use YPAO. When I got my spkrs for 7.1 setup, then I will also use SPL meter to do a proper one.

I am going to sell off the AVR2802 for the funding of my surr speakers. I am thinking of buying KEF / Klipsch. Rick pushing me to buy psb Alpha B1 biggrin.gif

Oh, you're using the coaxial version, SR75? I'm using the SR-SW model for subwoofer. The CHT-10R got 2 LFE input, should I use a Y-connector? Will it be an improvement? hmm.gif

Why are you connecting the DV-400S using coaxial? I'm also using the same exact model, but I only use one HDMI cable for both audio and video.

I'm also looking to upgrade my surrounds (for lower frequency response, maybe 80Hz or lower). But I want smaller ones so I can wall-mount. Do you have any suggestions?
*

Mine is old gen sub with no LFE input. So, it is better that you give a try (no harm).

Thought of not wasting this expensive cable tongue.gif . Tried just now. The coaxial carries better weight and details than HDMI. Strange hmm.gif I thought it is suppose to be digital signal (101010).

All of my current speakers can go 45Hz and below. So, I will be getting similiar speakers. Then, I will calibrate it all over again using SPL meter.

How about B&W DM600 S3 as surr. It comes with bracket for wall mount. PSB Alpha B1 doesnt comes with a bracket for wall mount. Else, it could fit the bill. Other option is MS bipolar spkr but I am not so impressed with its build and SQ though. Anyway, what's your budget? I will be in KLIAV to check out surr speakers too.

QUOTE
congratulation , finally u bought it

Tks, bro.

Tested it briefly just now.

I must say that it is very impressive even in DTS / DD as compared to my AVR2802.

While it is unfair to do a comparison in this way, Yammy's bass is solid but not too hard hitting (that's even before running in). It sheer power (130W compared to 90W in 2802) is able to push my Klipsch to 'wake up'. I set the LFE to 'BOTH'. Now, I can feel more grunt out of it.

When it comes to PCM, I must say that there are noticable improvements in SQ. I am hearing more details and the bass is like on steriod (megatron007 was right abt it).

Tested Black Hawk Down, Die Hard 4.0, and Fifth Element BD. Now, I knew what am I missing whistling.gif There bags of details in this lossless codecs. Oh yes, now I clearly understand why megatron007 told me that his speakers couldnt take it. I crank it up to 32dB on the dial, the Klipsch is churning out great low bass with sheer power. Luckily, it aint hard sweat.gif .

Will calibrate the center spkr to work at its best since this is the most important unit of all.

Then, I tested Shakira BD. Mamamia..... the SQ is fantastic! The beat of the drum is energetic and the overwhelming sounds of the environment is breathtaking. The vocal is so wub.gif

On another footnote, this amp along with lossless codecs, at best have to be partnered with 'capable' speakers (no pun intended and not trying to praise or LCLY abt my setup) to appreciate its 'beauty'. Else, the speakers will run 'coarse' or losing its control. Hence, noise being created. rclxub.gif

The YPAO is easy to use. Set it up on my tripod and placed it on my sofa. Press a few buttons and after a few minutes and test tones, it is done.

Yeah... now I am broke. No more 5 meals a day. Changed to 3 meals a day. Have to eat bread days and nights.

Now, it is BD time. But, will only buy worthwhile movies. Now, need to think whether to go for 7.2 setup since the LFE is overwhelming now. A bit worried it would be an 'overkill' to have a 7.2 setup in my 'small' room.

taukeh HTLeg,

aiseh... guess i m right...yammy amp is "harsh" tongue.gif

but again ..ears are very tired if u crank n watch-ed a movie in DTS HD MA lossles audio format for 2hour..

if can u try the AYAM_Legend_DOBI_TRU_HD... i crank-ed to -ve10 but  it is very nice

try again n let me know wink.gif maybe i m getting old tongue.gif hahaha
*
I watched Die Hard 4.0 in DTS HD MA. Crank up to 30dB. It is really loud at this point. I didnt find it 'harsh'. Oh yes, I read the review that if this 1800 will sound 'strained' under explosive scores. But, I didnt notice it. Maybe they are testing it at reference level. hmm.gif I wonder how it will sound at 20dB sweat.gif

Never before, I felt the power of all my speakers. The KEF surr spkrs are working beautifully with full of energy. The center is 'emphasising' dialogue in a more pronounced way. As for the front, The dual 10" woofers in each cabinets are restless, pumping out bass with ease. I suspect it is due to its 130W per channel rating.

When I have the time and after I got my rear surr spkrs, I shall fine tune it again as there are rooms for improvement.

I read somewhere that you should use analogue out if possible. Not sure, correct me if I'm wrong.

Of course, with analogue, cable quality makes big difference.
For CDP, i will analogue anytime. Let's the CDP DAC do the job.

Just tested 300. The 5.1 uncompressed is louder than Dolby True HD with more details. Abt the low end grunt, I feel both are on par. However, not all BDs are encoded in 5.1 uncompressed. Then again, I suspect it could be due to studio recording of the format itself (lower vol of Dolby True HD)

I tried cranking it up to 24dB, which is 2dB less than my usual vol when I was using 2802. Fuyoo, too b**dy loud! The bass is taut and punchy. The sound is just too 'overwhelming'. Quickly, turn the vol down to 32dB.

Itchy hands now. Looking for rear surr spkrs to complete my 7.1 setup. HT hobby damn wallet busting cry.gif That's why I decied to rename my topic to 'not So Budget HT room setup'.I did a rough calculation for the money that I'd spent on this. At least RM21K liao for my 17 yrs of this hobby. Lately, spent too much. Have to get some 'soft' loan from rx330 or Taukeh BD blush.gif

Only RM21k in 17 years? I must do check and balance now. I've spent RM12k (not including LCD TV), and I only started this HT hobby seriously in November last year. doh.gif

If I add in my previous display panels (reads: tv), sad.gif passed RM30K mark. sweat.gif

NOW who is the ELITE HT Taikor/Taukeh here.....

HTkaki,
I need to crank up my Yammy to min -26db to get clear sound for Astro....
If I am alone watching BD at home, I'll crank up the volume to -15db with PCM/dts-ma and -12bd for TrueHD
Does this mean that my V861's 105W power not good enough for me??? especially if I matrix the 5.1 to 7.1....I think the per channel power goes down really bad for the V861 to drive 8 speakers...maybe only around 50-60W per channel for 7.1
Demn....no marney to change receiver liao lar.... cry.gif
*

I feel you, taukeh tongue.gif

My previous Denon AVR is serously lacking power (90W), which I only realised upon getting my new toys. Now, running 6.1. When I cranked my 1800 to 24dB, my wife made noise downstair as she was watching Astro. Did I mentioned that my surr speakers really come alive? whistling.gif

Taukeh, buy lah.

p.s: for the record, I aint ELITE as being claimed by some parties blush.gif tongue.gif

Yesterday, watched 30 days of nights. Fuyoo, 1800 really performs well in surround effects. Til now, no regret.

rx330, not show off lah. Mine aint hi-end setup nia. blush.gif

I am going to check around for the surr speakers during KLIAV. Then, decide which to go for. Not buying there as I overspent this month.

Still aiming KEF / Klipsch. If B&W is 'cheap', will consider also.

yammy no pop pop sound on dts hd ma?
*

No pop pop sound but Die Hard 4.0 got some issue on first trial. The 1800 suddenly went into 'search' mode for codecs. Is it this bug? hmm.gif Maybe aiman can share.

My uncle came just now to audition the Sammy BDP1400, PS3 and 1800. This time DH 4.0 ok. My uncle is impressed with the 'muscular' sound of lossless codecs.

I guess the pop pop sound that you mentioned is something to do with the earlier BD recording. If not mistaken, the issue has been resolved. Correct me if I am wrong.

Mostly in latin songs. Only a few English songs. But, the vocal is excellent (not to mention those b**bs and booty shaking routine). Tomorrow, going to watch Celine Dion BD whistling.gif
