First of all, I don't know is this the right place to ask. Forgive me if it's not.

On the way learning to be my own boss, I came across this question on salary calculation. As far as I know, an employee salary involves a lot of factors such as whether he/she OT for the month, did he/she take any unpaid leave for that month? Is he/she single or married? How many children does he has if married? Etc. Because we need all that to get the right value from Socso table, EPF table, PCB (Potongan Gaji Bulanan).

The thing is, I am not sure which item to be calculated first & do I need to include allowance, OT into the gross salary before I use that value to calculate Socso, EPF, PCB?

May someone with the experience provide enlighten me please?

Hire a secretary/accountant, boss don't need to do such thing, should concentrate on the business. Or you can try some payroll software to get the basic idea first.

KWSP calculation is based on basic pay.

PERKESO calculation is based on gross pay.

dont worry, there's a table which you can refer to. smile.gif

@workaholic,
1) Decide on base salary
2) Decide if OT is to be given, if so - how much?
3) EPF for employers are generally 11% of basic salary
4) SOCSO contribution is if i'm not mistaken 12%

U will also need to look into:-
1) Insurance
2) HRDF (Human Resource Development Fund)

You should be able to get the charts from the separate government agency's website.

Hmm I can tell you that my EPF (employee) and income tax is calculated on basic + overtime + others (others including ... win award that has cash prize) ... i.e. that month's total gross income that the company pays me yawn.gif

PCB is calculated after deduct EPF (but cannot exceed RM6,000 per year, meaning max EPF which are allowed to deduct for PCB is RM500 per mth). No need deduct with SOCSO.

SOCSO is calculated based on the gross monthly salary, not need deduct with EPF 1st...

Comment for the following
3) EPF for employers are generally 11% of basic salary (Employer 13% if salary <5k, 12% if >5k)
4) SOCSO contribution is if i'm not mistaken 12% (based on the Socso table, there is a maximum contribution too)

Comment:

"win award that has cash prize"
There is 2k tax exemption per year for this, depend how your company set it.

Also like 6k tax exemption for business travel allowance per year
Interest subsidy certain percentage tax exemption
Meal allowance, etc
