Too many icons in desktop will block your beautiful wallpaper and make your desktop looked messy.

My little contribution to make your desktop clean and launch your application fast and easy.... smile.gif

Received good comments from many oversea software reviewers, Malaysia boleh!

Skinable, portable, customizable...... Hope you enjoy using 8start Launcher....

Thanks for your comment, I will make it better. biggrin.gif

Due to the limitation of the programing technique which I know, it may hard to show the large icon size ( size which is not the standard 16x16 or 32x32 pixel) at this moment.

Anywhere, will try to improve in other area...

Hey its a cool program.

As you know....not all programs are bug or error free. It would be good if those who encountered problem explain to Andy HOW the error occurs like when you click or add stuff.

Andy..good job bro. Good luck in creating new versions.

To draw the icons and create cache, the loading of 8start when u turn on pc is not fast. (only occur when boot up compuer). After 8start loaded, it will create cache and using it, the speed is super fast.

1. uninstall and install again
2. create a group and click apply, see if any error
3. create a shortcut and click apply, see if any error.
4. repeat step 3, until a error found

the loading speed depends on how many icons you decide to have on it, for a modern computer today such small application shouldn't take more than 5 secs for a fairly sufficient shortcut launcher to load.

the time for me to load for this program is 1 sec(partly due to few icons, but even i double the amount it will not exceed 3 secs).

you should try it yourself and determine whether it is slow for you or not, it won't cost you anything. biggrin.gif

*
1. right click on the desktop>New>Shortcut, at the link type 'shutdown -s -t 00', have the shortcut placed at any folder.

2. organize your button in 8start to link to the shortcut.

Configuration of your windows is ok.

May I know how to add the button? by 'Organize button' menu or by using 'Windows Explorer'?

Another try is add a button without icon.

This is a really strange problem.. rclxub.gif

Do you mean make it always on top?

I think that make it always on top is not so efficient, will block your working application like excel, word...

well, Always On Top is just an option that u can add on the next version..
because just like winamp, maybe somebody out there wants it to be on top.. (well that's the reason for it, hence the name itself is self-explainatory)..

some people doesnt mind if it block words etc etc.. because I myself use winamp on top when i want to surf the net.. while surveying some thread i prefer to let the winamp window sstays on top.. that's just me tho.. rclxm9.gif

thanks,

you can use menu>setting to set the hot key to hide/unhide

or you can use auto hide feature,

or wait version 1.6, in 1.6, right click will hide after launch. smile.gif

- Select picture file in 'Menu' then 'Organize Button' then 'My Computer'
- 'Pic Icon' text will appear if the file highlighted is a picture file with .jpg, .jpeg, .jpe, .png, .ico, .bmp, .gif extension
- Click '+' (orange color), click Yes to confirm that you want to associate the picture file with icon
- Use 'Design Button' if you want to restore the original icon.

After checking, I have confirmed that this is a bug in version 1.6, the autostart is not function properly.

Follow caspersky's advise if you want to autostart at this moment, I will fix the bug and may publish it next week.

Maybe if you right+click your tray area or the windows button bar at the bottom, and click choose properties then you should see the option "Hide Inactive Icons" there you can customize which you wanna display or hide.

There is many great freeware in the world, most made in oversea. I used a lot of them and I believe Malaysian also can contribute some good freeware.

Initially, I made 8start because I believe there should be a convenient way to access application. After that I published to the world as a freeware, as it may a great tool for other users also.

Some oversea users have made some donation ( I really fell surprise that someone make donation to me) , although is not a big amount, but it proof that 8start Launcher is really useful for them.

If I sell 8start Launcher, I may got more money then the current donation. However, my intention of publish 8start is want to share it to the people who need it, and hope it can be a little help for them to keep desktop clean, so I make it free.

this thing's sux a lot. we cant move the box and it's freeze continuously. the layout is ugly too. damn. can something malaysian be useful.. everything is crappy in malaysia.... less function and some icon dosent display correctly. it's like the application for windows 95. less feature.

What's the problem with you? You can ask the creator questions relating to this software or report bugs, and you can download some skins if you think default layout is unattractive, but what is that kind of attitude? You are free to make comment but that has NOTHING to do with whether it is Malaysian made or not. If you say everything is crappy in Malaysia, i would say your post is a very good example to illustrate how crappy things are.

i dont want to tell the creator how suck his application are. i'm sure he'll know someday. well, since i got this information here and everyone say it's good, cool, ok, nice, i want to give out some critics. ok. crappy things in malaysia. car? i can say the design is crappy. only lately things getting much better. i can say the latest Myvi is ok. a bit. handphone? what's up with M-Mobile? it's malaysian phone right? yes, it's functional as a phone. can call in call out. but.. did you use M-Mobile? no? tell me why. Smart Tag? zzz.. made in malaysian. if you ever use smart tag i bet you must get in to problem like stuck in toll at lease twice. singapore has a good example of ERP. Motorcycle? yet.. the design still suck. even our country politics. police. no comment about this. you know what i'm saying. if you cant stand out critics you just better stay away from people/community.

Actually, Malaysia created a lot of nice softwares, we just didn't know what they were.

One of the example, sUBs's ComboFix. You think this is the joke tool? It's the most powerful security related tool I had ever seen, and it is recognised world wide. Ya a lot of Malaysia goods sucks, but this is what we will be having on the way to 1st world country. smile.gif

Will try this software out soon. Hehe...Seems nice.

Good job TS ^^

Too many icons in desktop will block your beautiful wallpaper and make your desktop looked messy.

My little contribution to make your desktop clean and launch your application fast and easy.... smile.gif

Received good comments from many oversea software reviewers, Malaysia boleh!

Skinable, portable, customizable...... Hope you enjoy using 8start Launcher....

At least there is an attempt of trying and it works. Just a matter of polishing it and implementing new idea/features.

My little contribution to make your desktop clean and launch your application fast and easy.... smile.gif

Received good comments from many oversea software reviewers, Malaysia boleh!

Dude, it is just a small application for all of us. But it does have great impact in the way of how our wallpaper looks. After using this for some time, I couldn't even stand to look at those computers full of icons scattering around.

Author need your help. Version 2.0 is in developing, it will include customizable voice for the countdown feature. Appreciate if anyone can record sweet voice for 8start.

8start Launcher 2.0, code name 'Parrot' has been released!
Countdown feature is now with customizable natural voice. (Thanks Jim McBride for contribute the countdown sound)

and also built in Fun Sound feature
- Click the 8start Launcher border, you will hear fun sound, click again... you will hear second fun sound...

The idea come from the game Warcraft, when you click the characters, it sound..e.g. "Your orders", click again, it sound "Yes", click again..... it sound "Why you keep on touching me".. hahaha, very funny.

The fun sound feature need your contribution of your recorded voice...

My little contribution to make your desktop clean and launch your application fast and easy.... smile.gif

Received good comments from many oversea software reviewers, Malaysia boleh!

Skinable, portable, customizable...... Hope you enjoy using 8start Launcher....

Obviously you didn't take the time to find and configure this little piece of software. I don't find it annoying, I could bring it up whenever I wish without having to minimize my Windows with a press of button.

Has anyone tried this? My main concern is the memory being used. My laptop doesn't have much RAM. Will this be okay for a low-end pc?

Hi,
may I know is there a way for me to resize the 8start program?
I would it to be bigger so it will not look awkward on the desktop.
I am using this program so it can organize the icons by cateogries on my desktop.
thanks.

I've never found any use for desktop organizer because unlike the average PC users, I've never made it a habit to clutter my desktop with programs, files and folders. To me, the desktop is my workspace, which I reserve for drag-n-drop functions. I find it strange how people have to blow up every program window to full screen even when they don't need it. By doing so they deprive themselves of the seamless drag-n-drop functionality of the desktop.

I think in Windows 7 you wouldn't be needing this software or even the desktop itself. You can obtain recent files from the start menu. smile.gif
