Unlike previous games in the Burnout series, this title has been designed specifically for next-gen consoles. Spectacular crashes, unique online play allowing gamers to enter or exit at any time and total freedom to explore Paradise City are some of the features that promise to make this game race past the competition. The developer also claims the title will feature high-definition graphics, running at 60 frames per second.
9. Mercenaries 2: World in Flames

This is one of the most content-rich action games of the year, carrying on where the original title left off. Over 200 vehicles are featured in the game and each one can be sat in and driven. Clients pay you to create chaos and, with some great missions promised, this one is looking very promising indeed.

Running at an impressive 60 frames per second, this horror-filled game looks more sumptuous than ever. 7. Borderlands

This psychological mission-based game was inspired by Konami hit Silent Hill, so definitely one to watch out for.

You can use the black market to buy gadgets, while enemies will actively track you down using the environment and resources.

2. Halo Wars

Take2 has confirmed two exclusive Xbox 360 episodes will be released before the end of the year, with two more in 2009. This game could easily sell as much on the Xbox 360 as Halo did last year.

Following the original, acclaimed best-seller, which went on to sell more than 3.31 million copies worldwide and was an integral part of the console's launch, this update is expected to feature more dirt bikes, trucks, buggies, ATVs, rally cars and more. The sequel will also be powered by a modified game engine so, if all goes well, this title should be a lot more refined.
9. LittleBigPlanet

Considered by some to be revolutionary, with the Sony slogan of "Play, Create, Share," this game aims to promote Sony chief Phil Harrison's vision of user-generated content. The player will be able to take part in levels created by other users anywhere in the world, while other gamers can enter the levels you create.

One of the most respected and long-standing fighting games in the world, this latest addition has already proved a success in the arcades. 5. Killzone 2

A demo shown at the E3 blew onlookers away with its stunning visuals, fine physics and an all-new first-person cover system. Could it be enough to tempt Xbox 360 owners? Only time will tell.
4. Resistance: Fall of Man 2

Following Insomniac's recent success with Ratchet & Clank, this first-person shooter is definitely one to watch out for.
