Hello to all great people here,

I am planning to get a Black Macbook very soon. Why Macbook Black you ask? It's simply because I think the Macbook Black will less prone to get dirty compared to the Macbook White (and also of the cool looking factor). This is purely what I think and it might not right.


Allvin pointed me in the Macworld Expo 2008 topic this morning that Black Macbook can get 'even dirtier & smudges everywhere'. I just want to get your opinion regarding an option between the MB062ZP/B (white, 120GB - RM4,759) vs MB063ZP/B (black, 160GB - RM5,459).

I'm not sure regarding this issue. Is it true that the Black Macbook can get dirty as the White Macbook.

Which is a better option in term of value for $$ and which one is a better option I should go for (IF money is not an issue), Pro and Con.

I hope you can share your experience so I can make a better choice.

haha if u wanna budget u tk the white (DONT CARe ABOUT THE COLOR) if you buy the laptop jsut for the colour and not the specs take black.. its just the diff of 40GB hard disk .. at the end i chose white ..

yea.. Rm700 for 40Gb and exclusive BLACK color? Aiduh. Not worth le, btw i'm a tight budget person.

yep. it is really scary and same as white. Turn to yellow and black-dirty too. I saw one during my part time work. FIrst time i saw a darn dirty white macbook. The more news, the owner of that macbook is a female

Just make it a habit, after shut down your macbook, CLEAN IT!!

I clean probably once a fortnight. Just make sure your hands are a clean before using. Else, you could invest in those keyboard condoms.

The problem with

Blackbooks is
* Oil stains as shown in pic above
* This goes for the exterrior too if you have slighty oily palms

Whitebooks
*the glossy exterior is just like the iPod. collects scarcthes
*the palmrest, trackpad can get dirty quick if you ain't too hygenic

take the white

From that pict, you can actually see that the owner placed a plastic like sheet on the palm rest to protect it. And the plastic sheet is peeling off, it's not oil smudges.

I currently own a blackbook. Yes, oil (either from your face or food) is quite obvious on the surface. But the oil stain is easy to clean off! What I do is, I just use a damp cloth and slowly rub the oil off. Unlike the white one, if it turns yellow, there's no turning back. (Unless you pay to change the whole panel )

If I were you, if you can afford it, go for the blackbook. Once you own it, a little oil smudge will not bother you much knowing that you can easily clean it off.

I'm not scared at all but get a little heart attack see that kind of Macbook condition. I just want to gather some knowledge regarding the pro and cons for both two now.

I do read from the Macbook thread, there is a solution to remove the white color from the Macbook white using a liquid or something.

I'm using the black macbook. Yes it seems everytime u touch u'll get the stain but just wipe it off with cloth.

Btw, i dont wanna buy the white macbook because my white ipod has turned to yellowish colour. Kinda dissapointed. So better I buy the black colour

Thats what I scared the most. The scary yellowish, now seeking an advice, opinion from others experience on which the best to go

mine is still white..
by putting the transparent sticker at the wrist pad area (and top case)...
sound cheap, but it work!
although it oredi more than 1 year,
it still solid white!

i use pentel soft rubber to clean my white macbook, also make sure my hand is very(emphasize!!) clean b4 using.. but vr annoying lor when the eraser dust goes inside the keyboard/trackpad hole there.. gets very frustrated :Phmm.. no such thing as a macbook protective cover sold here at my area.. wat to do..

Got any protective transparent sticker/layer to protect specially for Macbook?

jz for keyboard,palm rest n trackpad..the body use a good laptop bag like the brand i using : HelloLULU. nice design. try it out at any MACHINES.

just use the regular JIF

even the yellowish stains will come off

makes ur lappie looks like frm day 1

Of course it is alright, just make sure you leave some space for the fan to release heat.

Though I would add that there are ready made products which would look better than the wrappers

i also donno wanna get black or white.

if compare by spec black is not worth it.

if i take black is just because of scaring white turning to yellow.

I didn't make any recommendations or suggestions. I merely asked Y spend $ to get something that's gonna trouble u? U should use it for something that's going to give u comfort, and help u in ur daily life

well, for mac laptop only got two lines, now 3 lines. For tight budget person like me, only choice is mb. So how? Need to bare with it lo if you choose apple products

There's no need to get an Apple of it's so troublesome. There's so many other kind of notebooks out there - no need to just choose from range of available Apple products. If it doesn't suit ur needs, it doesn't suit ur need. Y change ur need to make the product suit it.. it's just not right.. not right ! *shakes head*

tinkerbel, you didn't get my point. I'm creating this topic to find out which is the best between the white & black. I didn't ask which is the best between Mac, HP, Dell, Lenovo, Thinkpad etc.

if i put your point at there, then do you think of mac osx? Apple products is like that. If you want mac osx, you going BARE with their products. Btw, you tot i wan to buy macbook kar? Rm4-5k can get a better laptop with dedicated graphic. Just because of mac osx (legally), you don't have a choice, am I right? And my need is "mac osx".

I really don't think you should be worried about the colour; both has its pros and cons and if you're a careful user you'll be able to keep it clean I personally don't think it's worth forking the additional $ just for a black model.

black for me
clean it after using and you're good to go
better than yellowish macbook

I actually preferred the Black one but since I get to know the Black Macbook cab easily get dirty with smudges, now I am confused.

Seeing in the gallery at macblackbook.com (link provided by shenz817), I see a lot of smudges on the Macbook. They advice to clean the greasy hand 1st before touching the Macbook. Really need to take extra precaution like that.

they said the covers would also make the cover got scratches...

U mentioned u prefer the Black to White - is it a colour preference or what? Just like the Black, the White will also be decolourised if u aren't gonna be careful when u use it so really, is there actually a difference between the Black and the White?

Yes it's a color preferences and also because it look more 'cool'.

Look like the Black & White both sharing pro & cons regarding smudges, get dirty. So the main thing is just be careful when using it regardless it's a White or Black right? Always wipe it after use, wash hand before use it etc.


But White because it have a smoother surface, it more prone to get scratches even though you're already be extra careful with it.

for scatches, you can just buy the casing like mine. Orange casing if you not mind the lit bit of thickness to your macbook. White only scare for the yellowish. Need to clean it often.
