Hey I'm a complete noob to the ahem-ness for PSP.
Why are there so many versions for firmwares?
Is it safe to just buy one off the shelf?

I really want to fully use PSP for :
Games (ahem ahem)
Can play PS1 games (mainly FF7-9)
Videos (Downloaded videos like from youtube, movies, etc.)
Music (MP3)
Surfing Internet.

I'm just scared that the ahem versions of PSPs cannot do certain things.
Seems to me people update their firmwares, even though got risk of bricking.
Can I ask, why? Your previous versions functioned well right? Now you upgrade you get more problems like card can't read and such.

Wow you're really detailed in your explanations biggrin.gif

So basically if I see a "modded" or m33-x thing at the firmware, it means that the PSP is custom?
I'm trying to look for second hand PSPs because many people seem to regret buying it as it gets boring. Though for me I'm not really buying it as a gaming device. Gaming comes later when Kingdom Hearts : Birth by Sleep is released tongue.gif.

For 'ahem' games, and PS1 games + its emulator, how much space does it normally take for a single game? I'm not sure 4GB would be enough for me as I will probably split half for gaming and half for videos.

Also, theres this service someone is offering to mod PSPs for a cheaper price. Should I trust this and get an original PSP for him to mod?

The firmware is said to have already V3.90 M33-3.

Should this be upgradable?

Forgot to ask you guys. What are the must-haves for PSP? Theres so many packages selling and I find some things unnecessary.

Heres a sample package :
1 x Sony PSP Slim & Lite console(Black) - Firmware 4.01m33(Modded)
1 x Battery Pack (1200mAh) *100% original
1 x AC Adapter (100-240V) *100% original
1 x Box & Printed Material
1 x Polycarbonate Case
1 x USB Car Charger
1 x Retractable Charging Cable & Data Cable
1 x UMD Disc and MS Pro Duo Card Case
1 x Neck Strap
1 x Wrist Strap
1 x Cleaning Cloth
1 x Screen Protector
1 x 4 Analog Stick Silicon Gloves
1 x Earphone
1 x Games
1 x PSP Slim Soft Pouch
1 x Sony Hand Strap
1 x Sony Pro Duo Memory Stick 4GB for PSP

From what I see, most important is Battery, AC Adaptor, and Memory Card.
What other things I need? Is the 2 in 1 cable important? I think I'll need it to transfer downloaded files from my comp right?

Again, is the above package enough for me to : Surf Online using WFi, watch movies and videos, and play PS1 Games, and MP3?

I want to know too.

I've heard there are many issues on the 5.00m33 not working with PS1 games and other homebrews.
And I don't think I have the balls to try to update the version myself since I don't wanna brick it.
