Photos of the Jan2008 Paintball session at Isi Rimba.

I know the photos aren't exactly grade A content but bear with me. The conditions during the day made it rather difficult to capture good images without the use of additional camera equipment.

Some images are blurry due to the lack of lighting and my refusal to use the built-in flash. Also I didn't have a tripod to keep the camera still.
Some images are grainy because I had to use a higher film ISO due to the lack of proper lighting. Higher ISO's mean film with higher sensitivity, requiring less light at the cost image quality (less detail).

All in all it was damn good experience for an amateur photographer and hopefully I'll get better results in the future, with more careful preparation of equipment and more knowledge of the location in which I do my shoots. Weather conditions I can't control though.

Feel free to leave comments on the photos. And if you contact any of the pros there that were with us, send them the links as well.

Kudos~

I noticed you took quite a few shots from outside the arena which means there is bound to be a twig or branch blocking your way. The net can also be a nightmare when it comes to focusing.

The marshall didn't allow you to step into the arena?

It's a forest and I had to wear the mask for safety reasons.

The net was my choice. I manual focused it so the camera won't get confused. Marshall did allow me to enter on the opposite side where there's no netting, but doing so meant I had to wear a mask. It was either the net or the mask. Rental masks didn't have fans to keep them from fogging up.

And I was using a D70 SLR. Must look through the viewfinder, unlike common digital cameras where you can use the screen.

Ahh, I used a DSLR as well when I was taking photos for a paintball tournament. I am not an expert by all means but it is usually better to go with the mask and enter the arena. Was using rental masks as well but they could have given me a better one, not too sure.

It takes a while to get used to looking at the viewfinder through the mask but I am sure you will nail it in future events. Good try and keep up the good work.

Ask Aaron to let you tag along with his weekly sessions then you can take more photos as well. Its quite an experience to be in the field while they are shooting each other. No pain no gain so when you are inside, you get better angles as well.

Just be alert to make sure no one shoots at you and be prepared to shield your camera with your body at times. Wah seh, I speak like I got tons of experience but only shot one paintball event tongue.gif
