40GB - not compatible with PS2 game, cannot play SACD, less USB ports, no multicard slot, smaller HDD size

80GB - all of the 40GB features + all the above

I'm a little regretting my 40 GB purchase due to the fact that I can't play ps2 games. I haven't got a chance to play the excellent MGS3 and GOW series.

40GB PS3 cannot play PS2 games. Only 80GB can play. Another thing is that you cannot play pirated PS2 games in 80GB.

You forgot to mentioned that 40GB is using the 65nm CELL BE whereas the 80GB is using the 90nm CELL BE which runs hotter and consume more wattage.

yeah that one uses the newer process...

not that it matters to me anyway... doubt there's any performance increase from my 1st gen 60GB version...

Performance wise it should still be the same but the 65nm CELL BE is consumes less wattage and it runs cooler. Ideal for folding freak like me though I have to say even when it folds, it's still hot rclxub.gif

What he means is 40GB can't play any PS2 Games at all, original or pirated.

But the 60/80GB at least can play original PS2 games but no pirated games.

Another question:
Would there be in future that you cannot play a game in PS3 40GB but you can play it in 80GB?

Secondly what is the purpose of the Harddisk? I thought bluray is good enough..

eh WiFi gooooot.... my 40GB gets to go online just fine wirelessly. Purpose of the hard disk is to store downloaded content mah.... All the photos u want to view in slide show can be stored inside the hard disk. Downloaded game demos, game installations, music, movies. I am already running out of space on mine. And there wont be any future where 40GB PS3 can't play 80GB PS3 games. The processor specs are the same.

If you even care about SACD, you would be playing it on a proper dedicated SACD player
