Professor Chris Frith, of the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at University College, London, was impressed by the way the film used science as an integral part of its narrative. The Voight-Kampff empathy test, for example, is used by the police in the film to differentiate androids - who have memories implanted and are programmed with artificial emotions - from humans. "The Voight-Kampff empathy test is not far away from the sort of thing that cognitive neuroscientists are actually doing today," said Prof Frith.
thats only one of the things the movie is complex and slow, which would not appeal to a lot of casual movie goers who demand super nice laser fights and simple save the princess storyline. but its very rich, it asks the eternal question that we all seek to answer but do it in a very sophisticated way that doesnt insult your intel. the "villians" are not bad, they are just like us and behave what we would do in that situation. which makes it click even more and further propels the questions of the movie forward. understanding this movie is like understanding a complex poem about life, it doesnt answer your questions but it makes you question more, and in each added read you discover something new, a symbolism that you missed before or another question. and as far as movies go this is one of the best if not the best at it.
it is one of the best movies ever made and its the best adaption of philip k dicks work. period.
if you are a movie buff its a must watch, not once but multiple times. its a classic, and one fully deserving it what it achieves is something that even classics cant come to. its like metropolitan of the silent era, a picture of the future and a poem of ourselves.
