beside the front camera, if u realize, there is a small eye. that eye act as light detector.
it will turn on the keypad light when u r not dark or less light place.
try it. wen u under the light, let say in ur room, try put ur N95 under the bed which is dark place. the keypad will turn on.

the latest always the best.
use NSU (Nokia Software Updater) to update ur phone.
make sure u have stable internet connection.
i strongly recommended u to use line connection instead of wireless.
oh well, to avoid disconnection and break between updating the phone firmware. oh yea, the latest firmware is v30.0.015.
make sure u backup everything inside ur phone b4 u update ur phone. all the data will be lost during updating.

v31.. but already pull out from NSU last week. probably they want to redo the firmware. so, we have to wait lah..

the server have password set by the administrator.
contact the system administrator(person that setup the wireless xs/network) to obtain the password.

when u connect the usb to ur n95 and to ur pc, the n95 didnt post anything ?

u mean on N95?

u using prepaid or billed?
have u try plug out the card and run the phone in offline mode, and try accessing the Nokia Map?
maybe with this method, it will not automatically use ur line to operate the Nokia Map software. maybe it will go to WLAN instead.
btw, this is my logic thinking. i dunno this method can be implemented or not.

iinm, N95 will detect all types of media stored in the phone & extended memory.
