Precisely, I certainly wanna buy these movies on BD, among some of my favourite movies on DVDs last time. Hope to see Star Wars and LOTR on BD if possible, very sayang if such movies didn't get a Hi-Def upgrade.

Errr morning guys...got sum noob question to ask

why those downloaded trailer HD is so nice??

why i played the DIEHard4 & The Day After TOMORO .... picture hi def so so ONLY? not really got HD "ohmmm"

but my H3LLboy give more "ohmmm" hi def???
*
Itu HD trailers for promotional purposes mah, of course lebih cantik lah but the actual movie might differ. It's subjective.

QUOTE(aiman04 @ Feb 13 2008, 10:36 AM)
Don't even bother looking for BDs locally. But if you see ID4 somehow, please report here ASAP! wink.gif

Amazon, and sometimes Popazon is our friend. biggrin.gif
*
Sadly, the ID4 on BD is not the extended version. It's the same for Mr. And Mrs. Smith, FOX refused to release extended or unrated versions of their movies on BD, really potong steam ler. I worry 2-3 years later, they might rerelease these movies again on BD so in other words, you might be forced to buy twice for the extra content. doh.gif

Q3 2008? Can wait that long, ar? Predator, Twister, etc and other impressive line up coming to BD.

QUOTE(aiman04 @ Feb 13 2008, 07:34 PM)
For ID4,

Region A  is the extended version (147 minutes):

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=199
http://www.dvdspot.com/dvd.php?d=1430253441

Region B is he theatrical version (138 minutes):

http://www.dvdspot.com/dvd.php?d=1740530364
Must buy in March, the three I movies from Will Smith:

ID4
I, Robot
I Am Legend

And:

Gattaca
No Country for Old Men

*
If confirmed that Region A is the extended version then good lah, that's what I wanted. nod.gif

If I'm not mistaken, Independence Day BD already released in Japan (Region A) but more expensive rite? I thought I've seen that listed in Play Asia.

You can try Initial D, Flashpoint, Infernal Affairs or The Protege on BD but be warned though as some HK movies punya picture quality is really so so and nothing to shout about, there might be some grain, film dirt, imperfections and some edge enhancement too.

QUOTE(Thrust @ Feb 14 2008, 12:16 AM)
Bros, I want to know whether Blu-Ray titles display full screen during playback on LCD TV and not like DVDs that has black box on top and bottom.
*
Some movies (like Batman Begins, Dragon Wars, POC 3) were shot in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio which is much narrower than our 16:9 screen and it will result black bars at the top and bottom of the screen whether it's on a blu-ray, hd-dvd or dvd format.

Great to hear that blu-ray has won the format war... being a loyal sony supporter (fanboy), I think Sony's gamble on PS3 has finally paid off. Now we can enjoy all the great movies on blu-ray.
*
Well, the blu-ray format managed to defeat hd-dvd but the PS3 is still way behind Wii and XBOX 360 in console sales so they need to put in more effort.

The interesting part is why Universal, Paramount & Dreamworks didn't mention anything after Toshiba's announcement, will they continue to release movies on hd-dvd or what?

QUOTE(aiman04 @ Feb 22 2008, 06:57 PM)
What happens when there's Profile 2.1, 3.0? Standalone players are hardware-based.

Though it's possible to upgrade firmware, will it be as easy as PS3 to update the firmware? If it is, why is there a new model every now and then?

PS3 loads much faster, optimum picture & sound, operates using software, and it's still the best BD player as voted by Blu-ray.com. thumbup.gif

As a BD player, 40GB or 80GB model PS3 will have the same capabilities with the same firmware.

Just my opinion.  wink.gif

Or me unwilling to spend money again for a standalone player! Me not so elite. tongue.gif
*
No lah, it's got nothing to do with being an Elite or not b'coz a smart consumer will never want to be guinea pigs for these big giant corporations. Blu-ray players are all work in progress players, they don't have finalized specs like hd-dvd players, the safest bet, use a PS3 first, even if it is outdated, it's still a gaming console no matter what but seriously, I do believe the PS3 can be upgraded to profile 2.0 easily with no problems since it has an Ethernet port, large internal ram and a HDD but the main purpose of getting a standalone blu-ray player is to output HBR via HDMI to our A/V amp so that it can decode Dolby TruHD, DTS-HD MA, etc in its fully glory. For now, I'm happy using my PS3 for my blu-ray needs.

QUOTE(aiman04 @ Feb 23 2008, 08:14 AM)
I agree about the HBR output, that's one of the reason I settled on Yammy RX-V1800, for future. thumbup.gif

But it's not a too big deal for me though. I've done extensive research before I bought my PS3 and receiver. The difference between doing the decoding internally or by the receiver is negligible. The only disadvantage by having it decoded internally, is the "jittery effect". Now, I read about this a long time ago, and it was so technical and confusing, I already have no idea what is it all about. But I do remember, from those research I have came to conclusion, that the "jittery effect" is so detailed to detect, only a true, truly, truly pure audiophiles will notice. Thank God! I think I'm a true audiophile, but not truly, truly, truly pure one! tongue.gif

But that doesn't mean I will be satisfied with that forever. Because I bought the PS3 for blu-ray, not gaming (I do play sometimes,  wink.gif ) that will be my BD player of choice until it breaks beyond repair. Than I would consider a standalone player, hopefully it will be cheap enough by that time. biggrin.gif
*
I also heard that the 1080p 24fps output from the PS3 will cause audio drop in certain blu-ray movies and yes, the jittery effect is definitely there since a PS3 is not an audiophile grade equipment but just a gaming console but at this price, such small shortcomings can be overlooked lah. I'm reluctant to get a standalone blu-ray player yet until all the specs are finalized but for Yamaha RX-V1800, there's nothing to worry about, they have all lossless audio codecs taken care of and it's a good match for my B&W speakers and Velodyne CHT-10R subwoofer. Have tested it in my friend's shop, have no reason to doubt its sound quality, it's superb.

Off the record, I'm glad to know that Coyote Ugly will be released on blu-ray in April. Luckily, I didn't get the extended cut dvd but didn't expect such a movie to get the blu-ray treatment that fast.

Attached Image

I wanted to ask Sony, what happened to Bad Boys 1 & 2 plus Charlie Angels 1 & 2, always say coming soon to Blu-Ray, wait until now, habuk pun tak ada. mad.gif My friend just bought Air Force One (Japanese version) blu-ray, all the menus are in Japanese but the movie is of course in English, so far this title is only available in the UK but not in the US yet. That's another must buy title in my list. Hope it will be released in the US soon.

sunauto, wta, this rx-v663 got "lossless audio codecs" taken care of also?

can only afford 663
*
Yup, it supports all the lossless audio codecs but using an older Burr Brown DAC and is using Yamaha's own upscaler chip. It's still better than previous generation AV receivers so it's not a bad thing. At least, it's still using Burr Brown DACs no matter what. This model will sell like hot cakes for sure.

According to my friend, should be in June wor ..... I dunno true or not lah, he said according to Yamaha sales people. Might be earlier who knows. I'm sure they have prototypes of this model liao as we speak, just that it's not mass produced yet.

Ehh ..... you pay manyak attention to the moaning part, I watch Protege sampai mengantuk leh. I guess I will fall asleep if I watch Jay Chou in Initial D on blu-ray. doh.gif

I guess the only two Chinese movies I like on blu-ray is either Infernal Affairs or Flashpoint aje. Hopefully, they will bring SPL on blu-ray.

Later found out that my son turn off the Master Power button....what a relif....
*
Maybe, it's a sign from God to hint you to change to Yamaha RX-V3800. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(apisgogo @ Feb 24 2008, 09:40 PM)
i reckon this is because your 605 wont allow any kind of processing on PCM sources. Its like having 'pure direct' from the player. Other words your 605 just pass the signal from player to speakers.

DTS & DD get processed. thats y they sound better than unprocessed, plus they been amplified to match your settings.

go buy bitstream blu-ray player lah smile.gif BD30. all hd audio will rock ur house.
*
Yeah, it could be the case here but I have auditioned the RX-V1800, confirmed that their Cinema DSP works on PCM soundtracks. Had to carry my PS3 to the shop to test. Charm ..... However, to be frank, the internal decoding by the amp will sound much better than PS3's PCM output.

the amp is getting mpcm from ps3 , irregardless of truehd , dd or DTS, tats how it works
unless i set it to bitstream(ps3) then only it  will light up as dd or dts or pcm 2ch
so how?
*
Ehh ..... LPCM leh ...... bukan MPCM, janganlah hari-hari dream of being a MP. laugh.gif

LPCM is for backward compatibility to older amps, the sound quality won't be the same as the one decoded by the amp, you don't have Burr Brown DACs in a PS3, everything is done via software so ultimately, you'll need a standalone blu-ray player that can do HBR via HDMI.
